Opening School Drive :
A Little Stewardship To Start Off The Year
Want to start the school year off right and make a positive impact in our own back yard? After last year's successful drive for At The Crossroads (ATC), SFFS families are once again being asked to bring new school items for kids in need, such as: school backpacks, socks, or gift cards from Old Navy, GAP, Walgreens, or Target ($20 is recommended). Look for the collection boxes in the front lobby. Thank you so much for your time, energy, and consideration!
Coffee Under the Awning happens every Friday in September! Join us from 8:15-8:45am in the yard at the picnic tables. Meet parents and administrators, learn about ways to get involved, and enjoy some caffeine at a place *nearly* as hip as Four Barrel. Stop by for a minute or stay for several—all are welcome.
Registration for After School Offerings is now open, with classes starting the week of Sept. 11th! Please register here. For additional assistance, please contact Marina Vendrell or call 415.565.0400 x160.
Know Kung Fu? Your child could, with Rich Brown's White Crane Kung Fu! Register here. K/1st grade classes are held on Mondays; 1st/2nd grade and middle school are on Wednesdays (NEW: Acrobatic and Demo Team); 3rd/5th on Thursdays (Kung Fu Too).
Contact Rich at 415.722.0354 with questions.
Kindergarten sibling admissions process: If you have a sibling child who will apply for Kindergarten next year, please email Grecia Lacayo, Admissions Assistant, by Friday, Sept. 8 or call 415-565-0400 x291. Details about the process and deadlines will be emailed to parents the third week of September. If you have questions in the meantime, email Yvette or call 415-565-0400 x136.
Are you ready? Back to School Night for both Lower and Middle School is Thursday, Sept. 28 from 6-8:30pm. Please note, check in is from 5:30-6pm. Be on the lookout: details about parking and childcare to come!

Watch This Space Towards A More Inclusive Community: A Closer Look At Gender
Our professional community opens every school with a workshop, training, or speaker that addresses a particular theme or topic. Through this experience we come together as a community of learners, inspired by ideas and views both familiar and fresh to guide our thinking and actions for the year ahead. In the past we’ve explored Learning and the Brain as part of our Shared Study, and we’ve also taken a closer look at Quaker decision making. This year, staff from a local organization called Gender Spectrum will be working with us for a workshop and training.
This workshop and training is part of a larger effort to examine our current gender policies and practices throughout the school. From admissions to preferred pronouns, and from restrooms to rooming assignments on overnight trips, we see many ways our work can shift to be more supportive of students who may not identify with traditional gender categories. It will also help our entire community to become more aware of and sensitive to a broader range of gender experiences and identities and to transcend oversimplified binary understandings. Stay tuned for updates and opportunities throughout the year.
To learn more about Gender Spectrum, please visit their website. They have many great resources available for parents and guardians.
