New Video Released!

"Introducing Releasing Ministry Alliance"

Arthur Larrabee, Jon Watts, and Mona Cardell (pictured above) were among several Friends who shared their gifts and voices in "Introducing Releasing Ministry Alliance," a brief video telling why this project is underway and what they believe it can achieve.

They were joined by Barry Scott, Kevin Taylor, Lola Georg, Lynda Black, and Shan Cretin. Together, these Friends  represent ministers, donors to ministry (financial and spiritual), and recipients of the services of ministry. These are the groups that Releasing Ministry serves and connects.

The video will publicize Releasing Ministry Alliance, amplifying the message of our e-mailings and printed materials.

In it, Shan Cretin expresses her regard for Releasing Ministry Alliance when she says,

"I think this is going to be an astonishing and wonderful place to really display for the world what the Religious Society of Friends can be."

Even as we continue to raise awareness of Releasing Ministry Alliance, work continues behind-the-scenes developing the website, ministry database, and the non-profit organization to sustain operations. We've made great progress given that it is in our spare time apart from full-time employment and more remains to be done.

Donors have contributed more than $8,655, so far, toward our start-up goal of $16,000. We thank these Friends and those who offer pro bono legal services, spiritual accountability, prayer, outreach, and technical, fundraising, and artistic expertise.

We invite you to view "Introducing Releasing Ministry Alliance" half way down on our start-up campaign page and share it with others, tell us your interests related to releasing ministry at our contact page, or contribute at the link below.

The partnerships between Unami Friends Meeting, Friends Rural Centre-Rasulia, Ekta Parishad, Bhimkothi village, and Friendly Water for the World grew over time as a result of an on-going relationship between Friends in India and from the U.S. (Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, PhYM).

The photo above shows these groups coming together to accompany each other in work that enriches them all.  In 2002, a delegation of Friends traveled from the U.S. to India to attend the All India Friends Gathering. In 2008, another delegation of 9 Friends attended the FWCC- Asia/ West Pacific Gathering, met with Gandhian activists, and visited a rural village.  And a third delegation went in 2009 from Wilmington (DE) Friends School (see article on pp. 12-16).

Devdas Shrisunder (Bhopal YM, India) and Archana Gour (General Conference of Friends in India) both studied at Pendle Hill Quaker Study Center, sponsored by India Friends Working Group (PhYM). They both were instrumental in the success of these delegations.

One organization featured during two delegations was Ekta Parishad, a Gandhian organization which was the 2014 nominee by AFSC for the Nobel peace prize. Members of Ekta Parishad reached out to a U.S. Friend on behalf of Bhimkothi villagers whose nearest water source is a river several kilometers from their homes. Unami Friends Meeting responded, raising funds to assist, excavating a well.

Meanwhile, Friendly Water for the World offered training for biosand water filter manufacture to remove parasites, bacteria, viruses, and metals from drinking water making it healthy for human consumption. Devdas attended with Nailini Titus, another board member of Friends Rural Centre- Rasulia (FRC). FRC has since offered training to Bhimkothi villagers, Ekta Parishad staff, and others, with the financial assistance of FWCC-AWPS and Friends from PhYM. (Friendly Water began as a joint project between members of two theologically diverse Washington state congregations: Olympic View Friends Church in Tacoma and Olympia Friends Meeting in Olympia.)

More about the international partnerships is in this FWCC- AWPS newsletter (pp. 2-3, 8, and 10). And a brochure for India Friends Working Group is here, including a call for 2015 delegation members.
