Upcoming Zoom OPPS +

Releasing Ministry Alliance’s Opps 2019 Zooms had its second call "Under the Care of" in July 2019 with people from two continents. A recording is posted on the Opps webpage. In coming months, we’ll feature the topics of “Holy Abundance!” on September 26 (8-9pm Eastern) and “Faithfulness Groups” on October 24 (8-9pm Eastern). These Opps provide opportunities to gather for the purpose of exploring a topic pertinent to ministry, eldering, and faith communities and feature a conversational presentation and time for discussion.

“Holy Abundance”
Sept 26, 2019 8-9 pm Eastern time
26th’s program will share one yearly meeting’s experiences of financially supporting member ministries. New England Yearly Meeting’s Legacy Gift Funds, overseen by the Legacy Gift Committee, has been supporting ministries through funding and the strengthening Friends practices of stewardship and accountability since 2015.
Suzanna Schell (Beacon Hill Monthly Meeting) and other members of the committee will share their experiences of “holy abundance” throughout the grant-making process from meeting with applicants, helping meetings provide spiritual and financial oversight, and sharing the work of the grantees.
Through stories, they will describe blessings of individual ministers and Quaker institutions alike as well as lessons learned. For background on the Legacy program please see https://neym.org/legacy-gift
  • How does “holy abundance” play out in NEYM’s choice to invest in member ministries? In Legacy Fund's focal areas?
  • How do ministries witness “holy abundance” throughout the grant cycle?
  • How do Friends’ meetings experience “holy abundance” while supporting the ministries of applicants and grantees?
  • What “holy abundance” may yet-come?
“Faithfulness Groups”
Oct 24, 2019 8-9 pm Eastern time
Mark your calendar for when Marcelle Martin, Hillary Burgin, Benjamin Warnke, and others will share their experiences with faithfulness groups (also known as anchor groups or spiritual accountability groups). This is a practice that holds great potential for supporting individuals of any faith in allowing the work of the Spirit to become manifest through them and their communities. Marcelle’s newly published book on this topic is available at http://www.innerlightbooks.com/books/guide-to-faithfulness-groups.html. It may be carried by QuakerBooks.

Faithfulness Groups Workshop
Finally, a Saturday workshop is being co-sponsored on November 23 (8-9pm) at Friends Center in Philadelphia to teach more about faithfulness groups. Marcelle Martin, Viv Hawkins, and a group of guests will present the basics needed to form faithfulness groups.

We are looking into livestreaming and recording the workshop to make it available for people at a distance. Please contact Viv Hawkins at releasingministry@gmail.com, if you are interested to participate via livestream or recording, preferably with a group of people at your local site.

This workshop is co-sponsored by Releasing Ministry Alliance, Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting's Committee on Gifts and Leadings, and Green Street Friends Meeting's Worship and Ministry Committee.

FEATURED MINISTRY

Friendly Water for the World, David Albert and friends

Releasing Ministry Alliance’s directory continues to grow. Friendly Water for the World, a non-profit which addresses the critical issues of clean drinking water and poverty, is now listing. Friendly Water began as a project of convergent Friends (Olympic View Friends Church and Olympia Friends Meeting, in the state of Washington, USA).

They have projects in 15 countries, and work with the most marginalized and disadvantaged communities: widows; people with HIV; tribal communities; survivors of wartime rape and gender-based violence; former child soldiers; orphans and survivors of genocide; people with disabilities; people with albinism; unemployed youth; refugees.

Friendly Water is always looking for people of good will, volunteers, and opportunities to tell the organization’s story! They love invitations to Yearly Meetings (thinking they are a best-kept secret, and would like to change that!). Call David Albert at 360-918-3642. You can watch their video and learn more at https://releasingministry.org/ministry/friendly-water-world-0
