WCA Update: 22 April

WCA news
We've moved our next webinar to Tuesday 17 May (a week later than planned) so please mark that date in your calendar. In partnership with Wine Australia, we'll look at the results of three years of consumer research in China. We'll provide registration details next week.

Industry news
Australia’s wine exports grew by 13% in value in the year to 31 March, driven by bottled exports, particularly at higher price points, according to Wine Australia’s Export Report released this week. The news made headlines at home and abroad. Here is the ABC’s take on it.

Wine Australia also has new neighbours, with the Federal Government today announcing that the grains and fish research and development corporations would both be moving into Adelaide’s National Wine Centre.

Bulk wine specialist Austwine has released its annual post-vintage update, suggesting there is “no doubt” that the difficult oversupply conditions of the past 15 years are coming to an end. And yet there are reports from Riverina of growers ripping out vines in favour of other crops.

Events
Wine Day Out hits Adelaide (and Auckland) in just 11 days from now, Tuesday 3 May. Great concept and a great line-up. Get all the details and some food for thought here.

Entries are open for the Melbourne International Wine Competition to be held on 3 July. Information here.

The KPMG Sydney Royal Wine Show has openings for volunteer stewards on all or any days at this year's event (18-21 July). It's a long day but you won't get a better chance to learn and network. Details from Fiona Masters at fmasters@rasnsw.com.au
