Summer 2016
As we approach the end of a beautiful summer, we’d like to share a few highlights of the Global CI Team's successes over the past few months.
As part of the Leidos-Lockheed Martin team, Global CI has received two important contract awards.

HHS ACF OCSE FPLS Contract • In August we learned we were awarded the rebid for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE) Federal Parent Locator Service (FPLS) contract! We are key in a current effort to create a completely new architecture framework, and this effort had a significant impact in the Agency decision to award to Lockheed Martin. learn more

CMS NDW Contract • Also in August we were awarded the rebid for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) National Data Warehouse (NDW) contract! Through this contract we provide data warehousing infrastructure, development, maintenance, reporting, training, help desk, and analytical services. learn more

We have supported both of these contracts for over ten years, and these latest achievements are due to the support of our diligent field staff and technical recruiters.

Great job, Team! Keep up the good work, and thank you!
The Evolving IT Professional              By Chris Crouse
As a CIO I am witness to new developments and rapid changes in today’s tech industry on a near daily basis. Not only is it essential to find the right IT Professionals with the necessary core technical skills, plus specialized experience in the latest & greatest technology shifts – such as virtual computing, big data management, and cloud security – but it’s equally important to find individuals who have developed skills beyond their area of focus, skills that will complement any business overall.

• Ability To Communicate
More than ever IT has become a “Team Sport.” As IT Professionals we need to be able to contribute collaboratively in team environments with our peers. The industry today can require multiple skill sets to complete a project. The ability to communicate well with colleagues of different skill levels, background and experience is a must.

• Know Your Industry
IT is now a part of every major industry. Cultivation of core and foundational tech skills are important, and having focused skills in the industry you support is key. Whether understanding the customer focus and deliverables, or corporate operations, you should have experience and firsthand knowledge of your industry.

• Cybersecurity Awareness
Cybersecurity has become one of the most focused aspects of day-to-day IT operations. No matter what your background or IT focus you must know the core aspects of cybersecurity and how to apply those to your specialty.

Today’s IT careers are more dynamic than ever. You need to be a “jack of all trades and master of some.”  No matter your particular specialty, cultivating broader skills can make you a greater asset to any organization.
Global CI is proud of our team and their achievements.

Congratulations to our esteemed colleagues for their recent awards.

Saritha received the Social Security Administration’s Associate Commissioner’s Citation Award for her outstanding performance in completing the rewrite and implementation of the paperless application under the DMA environment. She also received a Certificate of Appreciation from Lockheed Martin for outstanding efforts in upgrading and streamlining paperless applications.
Hemendra’s recent project for the Social Security Administration – Customer Engagement Tools – won the HealthIT Award at the 2nd Annual FedHealthIT Innovation Awards in the category of Digital Engagement.
Venugopal received the Step UP Award from CSRA for his outstanding performance in successful transition to work order management for Office of Enterprise Support, Architecture and Engineering (OESAE) tasks.
Siva was doubly honored at Lockheed Martin’s Annual Appreciation Ceremony. He received the Tony Stark Creativity Award for consistently applying original out-of-the-box thinking, problem solving and challenging others to view obstacles in a different way. He also received the Management Team Award for outstanding commitment and achievement in support of the intranet Electronic Personal Enrollment Credential System (EPECS)/Authoritative Source Control (ASC) initiative to automate the internal control framework governing physical and logical access for contractors through the contract lifecycle.
We applaud Saritha, Hemendra, Venugopal, and Siva for their many successes, and we thank them each for their hard work, dedication, and exceptional service to our clients.

IT Tips & Tricks
Microsoft® recently pushed out the Windows® 10 Anniversary Update to celebrate the Win10's first birthday. The update was quite large and full of special features. Here are just a few highlights.
• Edge Improves! Edge is getting extension support. You can install them by clicking the ellipsis menu at Edge’s upper-right corner, scroll down to Extensions, and install like any other app. The initial wave is limited to 13 separate extensions, with support for add-ons from AdBlock Plus, LastPass, Evernote, Amazon, Office, and a few more. If you’re web shopping using Edge, Cortana will pop up with coupon suggestions. Edge can also sync your bookmarks & more across multiple devices as long as your MS account is set to sync information across PCs.
• Cortana Gets Smarter! Becoming more proactive and granting greater access to the Office, Outlook, and Calendar apps allows Cortana greater awareness, allowing use of commands like, "Send the PowerPoint I worked on last night," or "What restaurant did we use for last the office party?" and Cortana will understand what you mean. Cortana also recognizes data such as flight times in your correspondence and can create reminders. It also lets you to create reminders for random facts you may need any time such as, "What’s my hotel room number?" Cortana is also accessible from your lockscreen, enabling view of your schedule at a glance or with voice command. However, there is potentially an important drawback to consider – you will no longer be able to disable Cortana completely.
• Taskbar Calendar! The taskbar calendar now ties into the main Calendar app, and clicking on the time/date in your taskbar brings up a calendar view complete with overview of your tasks for the day. If you have multiple monitors, the time and date will show up in your taskbar for all displays, not just your main monitor.
As always, if you need help with any tech issues, email Ray Polychrones, Systems Support, or call 540.548.4570.
