The Sunday runs form a significant part of the success of the club. We kindly invite you to assist us again by presenting a Sunday run.  The club provides all the refreshments and will also provide a route. Volunteers can contact our club captain Dewald Muller (071 528 9614) or Rudolf van Wyk Rudolf.vanWyk@aecom (082 054 8556) if you are interested in doing a Sunday run.
5. Dieter Gloeck 60th Birthday Sunday run
One of Magnolia’s long standing members, Dieter Gloeck, joins the Grandmasters (60) at the end of February and he has indicated that he would like to celebrate the occasion by turning one of the Sunday club runs into a special occasion.
The date is Sunday 21 February, starting at 06:00 from the club house. After the 19km run, which will be hosted by Gert Pelser (the previous day’s race is the Tuks 10/21km), Dieter invites all to enjoy some champagne, juice, cake, snacks – and fellowship at the clubhouse. If a Sunday run does not fit into your training schedule on that weekend, you are welcome to join the celebrations at the clubhouse from around 08:00 (when the runners return).

To enable us to cater appropriately, please RSVP if you plan to attend. Do this by sending your RSVP to Melinda Smal by no later than 14 February 2016.
6. McCarthy Toyota Race
Our Magnolia organised race is to be held on Sat 6th Feb 2016 and we need to start preparing for race day. Please avail yourselves and lend a hand since it is all good fun and for the love of running. If you can help please contact Colin Billau or Charl Crouse.
We need around 100 helpers to help with marshalling. If you need to leave early we can accommodate you by placing you at an early marshal point to ensure you are finished before 7h30. You will have to collect your marshal bibs by latest 5h30 and the last marshal will be finished around 9 am. Most marshals will be finished long before 9h00.  All helpers will receive a McCarthy race t-shirt and food and cold drinks will be available for all helpers at the gazebo.
Marshal captains One of the above captains will make contact with you before  Wednesday 3rd Feb to finalise where you need to assist on the day. If you have indicated that you will help us with marshalling, please do not offer your services to non-marshal captains as this creates endless problems in the last week to try and find replacements.
Please forward me an e-mail if you can help or not, together with your T-Shirt size and any preference where you would like to help or if you have a requirement to leave early. If you want to be assigned to the same or a new position again just let us know, we will accommodate you.
Yours in running
Colin Billau

Ultra entrants are reminded to submit their qualifier details and 2016 running club license numbers by 23 February 2016 or risk forfeiting their entry.

Thank you Magnolia and Friends
Just a quick note to say a VERY BIG THANK YOU to Magnolia Runners and friends for supporting the Christmas Run last year and for their generous contributions. We collected about 185 tins of food, 25 jars of peanut butter and smaller amounts of other toys, goodies and toiletries. All in all 28 bags - over a trolley load (see attached photo) were delivered to the Steve Biko Paediatric Oncology Unit.
Also a big thanks to all for all the old medals. We made a yellow ribbon and put them on medals and filled 2 yellow bottles for the staff in the unit with them to hand out to the sick kids. I am sure the medals will brighten their day and make them feel BRAVE. We have a lot of medals and will therefore donate to other children’s hospitals including Red Cross in Cape Town and the new Nelson Mandela Children’s hospital in Johannesburg.
Thanks once again to runners for “coming to the party”. Judy has also indicated she is willing to show any-one interested around the unit so they can see where their donations go. Magnolia will be organising a Saturday afternoon where we can go visit the Oncology Unit. Keep an eye out for communications regarding this.
Just as an aside we have formed a little group called “Lemon Breeze” (because the kids at Steve Biko are called “Lemon Kids”). Lemon Breeze collects different things for the unit regularly and as required. If anyone is interested they can let me know at
Happy running to all
