Coach Connects - A webinar on the ‘coaching journey’

Cricket Ireland is introducing a series of webinars focused on coaching at different levels of the game, looking at “the Coaching Journey”.

The first chapter in our series will feature the four men’s First Class (Inter-provincial) coaches who will discuss their coaching journey, coaching philosophy, and how they keep learning.

For convenience, these will be split into two sessions:

  • Webinar 1: 5 May, 7.30-8.00pm – Ted Williamson (Munster Reds) and Simon Johnston (Northern Knights)
  • Webinar 2: 12 May, 7.30-8.00pm – Ian McGregor (North West Warriors) and Nigel Jones (Leinster Lightning)

All times referenced are local to Ireland.

The webinars are open to all cricket coaches and those interested in coaching, however, REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED and the numbers are capped, so we recommend registering early.

A couple of weeks back, Julie and Paul O'Brien (parents of Tom O'Brien (U15s)) went for a walk across Myrtleville Beach and up the path to Fennels Bay. They had walked the same route a few days previous, jumped on a tree swing for a quick swing, jumping off and carrying on. Second time round, Paul saw the swing, jumped on but unlike Julie, he didn't jump off, the rope snapped and Paul careered into the bank, knocking himself unconcious.

Julie has no memory of the incident (having gone into shock) but the emergency services were called and both ambulance and air ambulance arrived quickly. The medical team cared for Paul at the scene and he was taken out by air ambulance to Cork University Hospital. Paul's injuries were not life threatening and he is has now made a full recovery.

In response to the fantastic care and attention Paul received from the services, Paul and Julie decided to do a fund raiser for The Irish Community Rapid Response unit, which is in need of funds or its service will be grounded. The U15 boys did their bit with each of them doing a 5 km run near their homes on the 25th April and donating to the charity. The O'Briens set a 3,500 euro target but the fundraiser has raised nearly 8000 euros to date.

Who remembers this day ? Cork Harlequins held off a brave fightback from Limerick to clinch the 2016 Junior Cup at the Mardyke.

Defending a total of 181, Cork Harlequins seemed in command with the Shannonsiders reduced to 65-5 at one stage but a brave fightback by the lower order saw Limerick come within just 12 runs of victory thanks to excellent innings from both Kaasim Alam and Mustafa Sidiqi.

Mushtaq was the star man for Cork Harlequins making 31 with the bat and 2-36 off his nine overs.

COVID-19 Notice – Safeguarding Workshops

Due to the current government measures in place to limit the spread of COVID-19, many face to face Safeguarding workshops have been postponed. Sport Ireland has provided guidance to National Governing Bodies (NGBs) that completion of this online refresher, in conjunction with other additional steps, can be considered an interim measure until individuals have an opportunity to attend a face to face workshop. For further information please contact your NGB if you have not already done so.

This eLearning tool is also available as normal to those who have completed Safeguarding 1 and wish to refresh their knowledge.

*Please note - Anyone under the age of 18 should have parental consent to access this programme
