NCECA
My road trip up to Portland for the NCECA conference and the opening of The Evocative Garden to see my Hive Series exhibited was a fun filled week. The catalog for the show was done beautifully and seeing images of my piece pop up all around the conference in promotional material was a thrill. I've written a few blog posts about the exhibit, the trip, and the inspiration if you'd like to read more, click the links. And if you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you'll see even more photos of just some of the ceramic artwork that was on display for the conference. This was a fantastic experience and I was thrilled to be a part of it- thank you NCECA!

WORK IN PROGRESS
For those of you that have swung through my studio in the past few weeks you may have noticed an army of spiky flower forms covering my tables and have probably wondered if I’ve lost my marbles. Well, I assure you that there is a method to my madness! This is the start of my new Umbel Series which will be installed at the UCSC Arboretum this spring as a part of Site Specific Environmental Installations; a new exhibit for Art at the Arboretum curated by Susana Arias. This exhibit will be up for most of a year so you can visit the installations and see how they change and respond to the environments as the seasons change. Learn more here...

MISSION INDUSTRIAL STUDIOS SALE
On the weekend of May 6th & 7th, 11 artists in the Mission Industrial Studio complex will open their studios to the public for a weekend of creativity. The artists will have works on display for sale and will be available to discuss their process, some will offer demos and have hands-on activities for visitors.

The eleven artists include, Jamie Abbott, Susana Arias, Lucia Bruer, Barbara Downs, Nora Dougherty, Sefla Joseph, Majio, Kirk Mc Neill, Stacey Pollard, Susan Wagner & Jenni Ward. These studios are typically only open during the county wide Open Studios Art Tour in October, making this weekend event a unique opportunity for the public to visit the artists in their work space. The artists range in medium from painting, to glass, to metal and clay, offering something for everyone’s artistic taste.

Highlights planned for the event include a clay seed bomb making activity at Jenni Ward’s earth art studio; Kirk Mc Neill’s large scale sculpture the Sharky-Go-Round will be on display; and Work.Shop. – a mobile gallery inhabiting a vintage trailer, will pull up to share art during and day and offer a campfire with marshmallows into the evening. More special events will be added, so mark your calendars for this fun event!
