S3 Newsletter #4/2018

December 2018

Dear Friend,

It almost feels like yesterday, when we started the year 2018 and… here it is, finished!  If you have had a year as full of new professional experiences (and maybe some personal ones too) as the STeam, then without doubt, yours has also passed almost in the blink of an eye!
And that is the reason why we have again prepared a Newsletter for you with loads of news items, focusing e.g. on plenty of deliveries to our sourcing customers.  Some were repeat orders (as any business loves to have), others were totally new projects, including one for air conditioning units.
In terms of management teaching we also have a lot to comment on, including two assignments with Belgian business schools and one with a French institution, showing how much we have internationalized this activity.
On top of that we have a variety of other articles, which we hope you will find interesting as well, as e.g. the analysis of how China is planning to be the world leader in artificial intelligence by 2030, or six tips on how to do business in the market of the Asian giant.
Finally, we start a new list (remember the top-10 of most relevant Chinese language characters?), focusing on the most interesting books on China, its culture, history and, of course, its economy.
Wishing you all a great time reading this Newsletter and looking forward to your news!
Season’s Greetings from Barcelona!

Co-Founder and CEO – SGroup

Diversification and internationalization in management teaching activities

Since 2014, the company offers management teaching services in a wide variety of universities and business schools.  It all started with a single collaboration with a business school, rapidly developing into a full-scale business activity with a specific weight in the Sservice range.
After our first steps with the ICIL Foundation (a Barcelona-based business school focused on logistics and supply chain management), plenty of new agreements were added.  Right now Soffers management courses and seminars in over 15 (!) universities and business schools, the majority of them in Spain, but with a growing international presence

Sourcing: plenty of new orders, production, QC inspections and deliveries

As already commented in the introduction to this Newsletter, we have a lot of news on deliveries to our sourcing customers.  We are happy to inform you here about a selection of the most relevant supplies during this last quarter of the year.

New initiatives in management education

Again lots of news items in terms of business teaching at universities and business schools, in particular collaborations with ESADE, EAE, OBS, La Salle, UdL and EADA Business School.

6 tips for doing business in China

Regardless of how much we have learned over the last 15 years and how much we can offer our customers, we must always remain open to the views of other experts.

Whatever happened to the S3 interns?

In earlier editions of the SNewsletter we have already dedicated some space to the young students that (usually for 2 to 4 months) come to our company, to contribute their energy and interest in learning, where our team offers them the chance to work in real life projects, focusing on international trade.
China's ambitions in artificial intelligence

We take the liberty this time to widen the ‘internet’ section to cover overall ‘technology’, in order to discuss a topic on which we recently received a few questions: is China slowly, but surely, becoming the main superpower worldwide in artificial intelligence?

Something entirely different...

As usual, we finish our SNewsletter with a few topics that are only loosely (or not at all) linked to the business world.
This time, on the one hand, we will start a new list and, on the other hand, we will shine the spotlight on the less advantaged - specifically this time of the year - like the street children of Kinshasa (D.R. Congo), whom we at Stry to support as much as possible.

Wanna read again the Newsletter we sent out three months ago?

Thought about that news item we published and that you wanted to share with a colleague?
Can't remember that picture you saw and wanted to show to your friend?
Or... simply can't get enough of it and want to read again what we published some time ago?
We know the feeling: just click on the image next to this text and... off you go!
