Innovation, creativity, collaboration...these are all foundational ideals that we have built Wishbone upon. Since our establishment in 1995 we have sought out innovative partnerships in order to stand above the rest of the crowd. We also have a strong desire to work with people who have the same vision as we do - to build purpose driven products that are good for the environment and a delight to our customers.

One such partnership is with our foundry. After years of working with Wellington Foundry and their team we made the decision last year to bring the foundry under the Wishbone umbrella. Now we work even closer together creating some amazing projects. Projects like the Functional Artwork Seating category. Although we say 'New Category' in this newsletter, this idea started a few years back with the first design, the Whale Tail. Read on to see how our functional artwork series has evolved and take a look behind the scenes at Wellington Foundry.

NEW PRODUCT CATEGORY: Functional Artwork Seating

At Wishbone, take pleasure in designing furnishings that are not only functional but aesthetically appealing. We aren’t telling a tall tale when we say that our Tail series of benches are functional and fun. They bring on a smile and chuckle along with a spot to sit and enjoy the view while telling long tales, fairy tales or your own tales. Art and function, now that is something to get your tail shaking!

Behind the Scenes at Wellington Foundry

Here is a look behind the scenes at Wellington Foundry. The Whale Tail is a beautiful example of functional artwork seating. Originally designed by artist Jeff King, the idea was to bring a visually appealing seating option that spoke to it's surroundings. We have the amazing coast line of the Pacific Ocean to enjoy which is full of whales. This piece was the perfect place to start.

Each Whale Tail Bench is handmade at our foundry in Parksville BC. This is the most labour intensive product that goes through the foundry. Hundreds of hours went into designing and manufacturing the 16 different molds that are used to make each tail. Then, over 30 hours are put into the casting, assembly, sanding and powder coating. Making the tail smooth takes real craftsmanship and the team at  Wellington Foundry are some of the best in the business. The same dedication and attention to detail used on our functional artwork pieces can also be found in our main line of site furniture.

Oh, we almost forgot to mention...each Functional Artwork Seating piece is made from 100% recycled materials like vehicle rims. That metal would otherwise end up in a scrapyard or a landfill. We would much rather see it being repurposed and enjoyed!

Solutions for the Future from Pieces of the Past

51,298 lbs of recycled materials used in March! These numbers continue to climb. This has been the foundation of Wishbone Site Furnishings from the beginning - Solutions for the Future from Pieces of the Past. We love seeing these numbers climb every month and will continue to share the numbers each month.
