Spring is such a wonderful time of year. New projects and installations are underway, we are producing more innovation site furniture and we are working on Zoom as much as much as we can until we can see our clients in person once again!

Some projects that that have been in the planning stages over the Winter months have now come to fruition. Take the recent decision by the Town of Osoyoos BC to close part of their downtown district to vehicles in order to make more space for outdoor gathering. Read below to see how we put together a site furnishing package specific to their needs.

As you know, here at Wishbone we love design new products. In the process we weave in inspiration from our families and team members either into the design or name. Learn more about the JEM Lounge Chair and it's cute inspiration below.

Thanks for reading!

NEW PRODUCT FOCUS: The JEM Lounge Chair

A modern take on the Muskoka chair, this stylish seat really stands out. We were looking at ways to create a municipal grade chair that was unique but familiar, contemporary yet comfortable and we think we did it! The heavy-duty aluminum frame is strong enough to handle more robust use in a municipal environment and the recycled plastic lumber brings a warmth to the modern  frame. Colour combinations are endless with the variety of lumber choices and paint colours available. An added bonus is that the chair ships fully assembled so set up is simple and easy. The name of the chair incorporates the first letters of the three grandchildren of one of the owners: Josie, Emery and Milo. The JEM Lounge Chair is the perfect seat to have a seat!

Feature Project: Osoyoos 2021 Street Closure

In January 2021, the Town of Osoyoos began planning for a street closure event scheduled for the May long weekend of 2021. Their initial request called for a collection of easy to install, clean, and maintain street furniture. The categories of items on demand were varied, as the town really wanted to create a welcoming and unique outdoor setting. This meant recommending a combination of site furniture from four different Wishbone “families” or “collections”.

Wishbone worked closely with Andrew (the Town’s Operational Services Manager) to come up with a compelling layout that would suit all users within the general public: the average person looking for a place to spend time, shoppers & passers-by, the elderly, children wanting to play, and those with different mobility requirements. With the anticipated high-use, robust Wishbone furnishings that are easy to clean and sanitize were a clear choice.

First, this meant selecting benches and picnic tables. A Bayview Hexagonal Picnic with wheelchair accessibility was chosen as the central “feature”.  Three Rutherford Heavy Duty Picnic Tables – which are freestanding and moveable – were slotted in near the food service area along with a Modena Large Curved Top Waste Can.  For the kids: two Rutherford Children’s Picnic Tables – a miniaturized version of our most familiar table.

By selecting a colour palette consistent with all of Osoyoos’s existing Wishbone amenities, the whole collection looks as-if they were meant to be together. Silver aluminum frames combine with attractive redwood plastics slats to deliver a clean and modern look, while still retaining a traditional design overall.

That brings us to the final noteworthy items that were designed and produced just in time for this event. Enter: The JEM Chair and matching JEM Side Table. We were looking at ways to create a municipal grade chair that was familiar & contemporary - and we think we did it! The heavy-duty aluminum frame is strong enough to handle more robust use in a municipal environment and the recycled plastic lumber brings a warmth to the modern frame.

The most important factors for these site furnishings were function, flexibility, and ultimately showing up in time to install before the big event!

So, although for this summer, they’ve been installed in a certain way, and the public is currently enjoying them , there’s nothing preventing the furniture from being shifted and reconfigured in years to come.
“Thank you and your team for making this possible!”
– Andrew M.
