Virtual Governance Session

Join us on Wednesday, June 15 from 12:00 – 1:30pm for the final session of our 2022 virtual governance series!

Bias, cognitive dissonance and naive realism has a profound impact on group thinking and collective decision-making. In this session, Gregoire Lefebvre - the Director Forum Co-operative’s newest board member, Director of the Caisse Alliance and retired high school principal - will provide meaningful insight into human behaviour, which can lead to sound decision-making practices around the board table, and foster growth of your organization.

For over 40 years, Greg has been a chronic reader on the topics of neurology, cognitive psychology and human behaviour, and throughout his career, has initiated many new practices and structures in the education setting, all relating to improving learning environments and collectivity practices.

Fall Conference Information

The Board has been hard at work planning the fall conference and has some exciting updates to share with you!

We are pleased to announce the theme for the 38th annual Directors’ Forum will be “The Fundamentals of Good Governance.” The sessions at this year’s in-person conference will focus on strengthening the board’s effectiveness in strategy and oversight for credit unions. Stay tuned for information coming soon about the session topics and speakers!

After careful consideration, the Board is also happy to announce that they will once again produce and host a hybrid conference in 2022, enabling delegates to participate virtually from the convenience of their home and/or office. As there is an added cost to provide this service, the virtual offering is contingent on reaching enough participants to make it financially feasible. Registrants will be notified at least three (3) weeks prior to the event if the virtual option needs to be cancelled and provided the option to switch to the in-person event or to receive a refund.

For those delegates requiring accommodations, we have negotiated a fantastic rate of $175 + HST with the Hilton Mississauga-Meadowvale (per standard room night) as part of a discounted group booking – and parking is free! Learn more here, and feel free to book your rooms early – you can always cancel them, but you can’t get the guaranteed discount after the room block is full or after the deadline!

Annual General Meeting

The Directors’ Forum Co-operative will be holding its AGM virtually on Wednesday, November 16, from 1:30 – 3:30pm, and not during the fall conference as it has historically. This decision was made in order to maximize the time we have for the conference sessions, while also enabling greater participation at the AGM. 

The business meeting will take place during the first hour, when we will share an update from our Board Chair, Leo Racette, as well as a financial report from Treasurer Kathy Stewart. This year, there will also be an election to the board of directors – more information will be provided in the coming months.

Immediately after the business meeting, we are pleased to announce that Mark White, CEO of the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario, and their recently appointed EVP of Credit Union and Insurance Prudential, Mehrdad Rastan, will be joining us for a virtual presentation and Q&A session. Mark will share an update on the principles-based regulations scenario, and Mehrdad will speak about recovery planning/risk-based supervision.

Only those individuals who have paid their $2 lifetime membership fee will be able to vote in the election, but anyone who wishes to join us is welcome. Individuals who have not joined the membership will be able to do so when registering for the fall conference.

Registration for the AGM is free and will be conducted separately from that of the conference – stay tuned for details!
