Happy New Year
Hoping we get to welcome you to The Control Tower in 2018

We hope this finds you well and having enjoyed a restful and fun filled festive season. We've had a super busy Christmas period filled with guests and are now ready to start the New Year with a little break to enjoy some family time and all that North Norfolk has to offer. Which for us means long walks from CTHQ along the coast, lanes and countryside; usually taking in a local hostelry... bliss.

2017 has been a good year in the B&B and we have moved some of our ongoing projects forward. We have planted a native hedge all around the tower which will grow into a wildlife haven, unfortunately while digging Nigel injured his back so has been on strict light duties for the last 6 weeks...  he is now mending thankfully.

We've made great strides with our memorial project - "Time to Remember" - there is some detail about this below but more will follow as a few more pieces of the puzzle fall into place in the coming weeks.
To all of you who were brave enough to crowd fund us for the Stirling Suite renovations... if you have not taken your stay yet please get your diaries out. The rewards should be taken by the end of March 2018 but to give you a chance please ensure you book them before the end of March for a stay by 30th September 2018.

Below we've put together a little round up of our CTHQ 2017  - hope you enjoy it. We wouldn't be here without you so thank you for all your support, visits, reviews, social media interest and telling others about us. If you have been to stay and would like to leave us a review please do: Trip Advisor | Facebook | Google it means so much for others who have not been yet... and us too :)

Warm wishes for a happy and healthy 2018 and in the spirit of the new year we are offering a January sale to the first 25 who book... so get your diaries out and get booking (quick).

Claire & Nigel xx

Time to Remember
Our project to erect a befitting memorial to those who served at RAF North Creake got underway in 2017. We will be officially launching the project in spring 2018 but we are delighted with progress so far.
We are almost ready to apply for planning permission - once we have that in place we will announce the project launch. Our aim is to have a Stirling sculpture memorial in place by the 75th Anniversary of the disbandment of the airfield - August 2020. We also plan to have  a Roll of Honour for those lost and information about the airfield when active.
Time to Remember will be a fun filled 2 and a half years. We're planning unusual ways of raising the money needed including having a memorial beer... 'Drink to Remember' and other events like 'Dance to Remember'... 'Cycle to Remember'. The fundraising started at a soft launch we held in October and we have had some amazing pledges and donations already. There will bemany opportunities for you to take part so let us know if you want to be involved or pledge towards the project.
We need to do this now while those who remember what happened here can see that we still care and want to remember.

The Flight Engineer badge of Bernie How - 199 Squadron.
He gave this to us when we interviewed him in 2017.

Our round up of 2017....
In and around CTHQ, some great walking and bike rides, new discoveries,  cultural highlights and fun times with the #ControlTowerCats
=^.^=  =^.^=
Lots of lovely guests have been greeted with this view during 2017
Our beautiful Control Tower poster commission by Bryan Harford came to life. We love this so much and are delighted that so many of you do too. These are available by order if you want to buy one - just drop us a line.
Lots of lovely walks this year... looking forward to more of this in 2018!
Wells beach - our favourite
New discovery for us - The Wiverton Downs and seeing the Blakeney Esker with gorse in full bloom. Fantastic view of the sea from there.
The Nissen Hut in the pink... with the winter flowering Cherry Tree blossom almost the same colour as the sky.
We're getting to know Norwich a bit better and love a night out there - we've seen some great comedy this year. Just love this Barbara Hepworth sculpture on St George's Street.
#Culture #Norwich
The Stirling Suite has been so popular in 2017... we are so glad we were brave enough to do the crowd fund project. We get so many comments about the breakfast delivered by Ni in our vintage basket and coolest cool box.
Wonderful Wells-next-the-Sea... how we love this view
Love the start of autumn at The Control Tower
Walking followed by a rest and a drink in a local pub is our idea of a great day out...
2017 saw us finally planting the native hedge all around the tower... 650 plants in of Hawthorn, Black Thorn, Hazel, Wild Plum, Wild Rose and Field Maple... looking forward to watching these grow.
The Sheringham/Holt 1940s weekend is always a hoot here... we only have one room available for 2018 so if you want to stay you need to be quick.
Sunset on the roof... #ControlTowers = #GreatHomes :)
We loved the Richard Long exhibition at Houghton Hall. We're looking forward to see what's coming next.
Christmas Day at #CTHQ. We will be open for Christmas again this year so let us know if you want to book.
Cycling the lanes was our pass time of choice last summer... we hope to have our vintage tandem restored for this year... let's see if we get it on the road in time. There is a great local bike hire company if you want to have a go.
Summerhill - one of our favourite bands (the first gig Ni took me to see) played in Norfolk in 2017 (because we asked them to!). We got to meet all the band as they stayed here... what a lovely bunch they are. So sad that a couple of weeks later their drummer - Iain Shedden, died suddenly. We were very pleased to have had the chance to meet him and hear them play together.
Lots of gift vouchers were made and sent in December... get your diaries out if you got one and want to book.
Mandrel looking like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth... shortly after pulling the tinsel off the tree and he and his Mum, Window, playing tug of war with it!
Our new favourite local; The Carpenters Arms opened in 2017 under new ownership. They have created a welcoming, warm, friendly pub in such a short amount of time. The beer is local and delicious as is the food with the staff being so nice and friendly... we find our walks seem to gravitate around Wighton these days!
Love this greenway to Gallows Hill - a lot of our walks include this stretch. It is beautiful even in the depths of winter (this was Boxing Day).
You can't go far in North Norfolk without stumbling across a WWII relic... like this spigot mortar base in The Bayfield estate.
We are seeing an increasing number of vegan guests stay at The Control Tower. There is a growing trend of people moving to plant based diets - you are more than welcome here at the Control Tower. This is our fully cooked vegan breakfast.
Managed to buy a bottle of #Baccus2015 the world's best single variety white wine in 2017 - grown and made in Norfolk. It was really good!
Thrilling to watch the Red Arrows display over Holkham from our roof!
Our fabulous door signs arrived!
A spring of ice! Strange frosty formations from our hand rails to the roof.
Some people think a vegetarian breakfast is not substantial... if you are unsure why not come and try one :)
