Day Two & Traffic Updates

Dear ASB Families,
What a terrific first day! It was so wonderful to see all of our students back and ready to learn! I know you are receiving many messages in these first few days of school. Please take the time to read and be sure you have all the information you need.
As is true with any construction project, there will be times that we have some surprises. Today, the surprise was intermittent power in the primary wing. I have to say, the flexibility and ease with which both teachers and students went with the flow was beyond impressive. For the most part, they were un-phased and continued with their days. Nothing like first day fun!
Traffic with our new patterns went fairly well. A few reminders as we move into tomorrow:
Please remember that parents and staff who on traffic duty are there to keep your children and you safe. If they redirect you or ask you to use a different route, it is because they are following the approved traffic pattern and rules. Please be patient and do not roll your eyes, argue, and treat them disrespectfully.
If you are not a PreK parent, please avoid parking and walking. Use the morning drop off locations:
- Loop- Loop is in the main parking lot. You may enter into lot directly off 65th and use one of two lanes to enter loop. You may also turn right off of 65th onto 33rd, then right into the loop entrance. Students should exit cars on the south side of loop, closest to school building, when a parent volunteer opens the door for them.
- When you exit the loop, proceed south on 33rd to 62nd. You may turn left onto 62nd to exit or right on 62nd to exit with other traffic line. Please do not proceed south on 33rd past 62nd.
- 62nd drop off – You may turn right or left off of 65th to head south on 33rd, turn right on 62nd and drop off students when a parent opens the door. Then turn right on 32nd to exit towards 65th.
There is NO dropping off or picking up along 32nd or 33rd. Do not enter the construction area on 32nd.The same procedures should be followed for afternoon pick up.
There should be NO walking through the traffic loop in the parking lot. All walking should be on sidewalks. We know it is a bit longer, but it is a must for keeping students, staff, and families safe.
Parents on traffic duty must sign in the office. Please remember that failure to sign in is a $50 fine. Parents should plan on signing in by 8:15 or waiting until after their duty is over at 8:35. Between 8:15 and 8:35, parents will be held at the main entrance to let all of the first, second, third and fourth graders get to their classrooms in a timely manner. Parents will then be buzzed in by the main office.
All of this information, including detailed maps and instructions, can be found here on our website. It will take us some time to get into this new routine, but if everyone is patient, follows protocol, and remembers that this is all for the safety of students, it will go just fine!
