Dear Students, Families, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of ASB School,

Winter is definitely upon us.  Tuesday was a particularly dreary day with rain, cold and not even a smidge of light.  Luckily for us, the joy of the season and the many wonderful things happening here keep our spirits high and fill the building with learning and laughter!  I actually think the students were quite happy to have a few rainy day recesses to play with legos, draw, write stories, and stay inside where it’s warm.  Our 5B students kicked off the week with a wonderful Advent prayer service in the gym first thing Monday morning.  As they told and re-enacted the traditional story of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the gym was filled with the spirit of Advent.  It was a lovely and peaceful way to begin this second week of Advent, a week centered on the peace of Christ.

I am excited to announce that we have hired a kindergarten aide for KA.  Beginning in January, Emily O'Hare will join our kindergarten team and follow the amazing footsteps that Anne Dodge is leaving behind.  Emily brings a degree in Early Childhood Education and experience teaching in preschool.  I look forward to welcoming her to ASB!

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and supported A World of Pure Imagination this past Saturday!  It was an amazing evening and I was so humbled by the incredibly generous support of this community. We don’t have all of our numbers in yet, but I can say that it was a huge success.  A few last minute reminders regarding the auction:
  • If you ended up with a beautiful Glassybaby from your table but don’t see it on your bill, please let us know.  The school does have to pay for the missing 27.
  • Go online and bid, bid, bid! The online auction closes tonight and there are still some great items.

Report cards will be emailed home on Friday.  Remember that we are just starting the second trimester and have much learning left to do this year.  We are so impressed with our students’ efforts so far and look forward to what the rest of the year has in store!

I look forward to seeing many of you at our Christmas concert on Thursday evening.  St. Bridget will be filled with the music of our concert band, choir, and joyful singing from our first, second, and third graders.  It will be a wonderful celebration of the season.

We are so excited to have our first parent education event scheduled and it is going to be an amazing opportunity.  We will be showing the documentary Screenagers on January 24th in the Assumption Fellowship Hall.   Not only that, the filmmaker herself, Dr. Delaney Ruston, will be joining us for a question and answer session following the film.  Please mark your calendars and be sure to thank our Parent Board for hosting this event.  More info is below under ASB News.

Finally, I want to say how grateful I am for the amazing support of our faculty and staff.  The scrip gifts received from the parent community were so generous and I know we never cease to be amazed at all you do for us.

Have a wonderful rest of the week and a blessed weekend!

Best,
Kathleen Conklin

Thank You ASB Families!

DON'T MISS THIS!

Are you watching your kids scroll through their lives, with their rapid-fire thumbs and six-second attention spans? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. In SCREENAGERS, as with her award-winning documentaries on mental health, Delaney explores struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.

WHO:     All Parents, Friends, and Guests - parents & kids are welcome
WHAT:    A special screening of SCREENAGERS documentary film and in person Q&A session with filmaker Dr. Delaney Ruston

WHEN:  Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 7:00pm
WHERE: Assumption Parish Fellowship Hall
WHY
: ASB has the unique opportunity to welcome Dr. Delaney Ruston on campus to present the film and lead a Q&A session. This is a MUST SEE film and MUST ATTEND parent event - don't miss it!

Have you submitted your application for PreK & Kindergarten?

Are you a current ASB family with a younger child at home planning to come to ASB PreK or Kindergarten next year? If so, sumit an application TODAY. Current school families have priority enrollment, but to accurately save enough spots for all siblings, we must receive applications as soon as possible!

IMPORTANT INFO FOR CURRENT FAMILIES:
  • If your child is a current ASB PreK student moving onto Kindergarten here at ASB, you do NOT need to complete an application.
  • If you are a current ASB family applying for PreK or Kindergarten, you do NOT need to complete a Parish Reflection Form along with your application. Unless you have recently joined one of our parishes, we have one on file for your family from Spring 2018. You will be required to complete the Parish Reflection Form in spring 2019, as an annual part of Registration. Questions? Please email me.
Completed applications should turned into Admissions Director Kelley Kane.
