Monthly Message from the Principal

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful holiday season with family and friends. While it was lovely having a break, it is also great to be back at school and in our normal routine.

As we begin 2020, we look towards a second half of the school year filled with curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, and celebration.  We head into this month looking forward to so many things:

Celebrating our identity as a Catholic parish school. January 26th - February 1st is Catholic Schools Week and schools across the country will be celebrating the faith, joy, and opportunity that Catholic schools bring to students and families.  From the Bulldog Bash to Spirit Week, from Thanks-a-Latte to celebrating mass, from an assembly to an Open House, this week will be grounded in embracing the many gifts Catholic education brings to all in the community.

Renewing our commitment to peace and justice as we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. and all those who fought (and continue to fight) for the civil rights of all people.  How do we build peace and justice in our community?  How do we broaden our impact to those around us?

Building our understanding of empathy. Self-Regulation this month will have students exploring their moral identity and how that shapes who they are and what they do.  The staff focus for the month is cultivating compassion; how do we not only embrace empathy, but, in turn, act on it when necessary?

Supporting our amazing arts program by attending our school musical, Narnia. Our middle school students, Ms. Olsen, and Mr. Turner have put in tremendous work and look forward to seeing everyone attend a performance the week of January 30th – February 2nd.

Showing gratitude to our supportive ASB community.  We continue to be deliberate in our practice of gratitude. This month, I want to particularly thank Jamie Cronin, who has spent many hours working with our Advancement Team on the new format for our weekly newsletter.  Show her your gratitude by reading it all the way through! Thank you, Jamie!

Until next month... thank you for all you do for ASB!

Main Announcements

Important Schedule Change

On Thursday, May 21st, ASB will dismiss at noon.  The purpose of this dismissal is to have our full school reunification drill.  Families will receive more information closer to the date. This is an important event for all families to learn these procedures in case of an actual emergency. Thank you for making note of this important schedule change.

Inclement Weather

In the event of snow or severe weather, please check our school website or voicemail for information regarding changes to our schedule. We also make these announcements on local television stations (click HERE to sign up for King5 text alerts) and whenever possible, send an email home to families. Please be aware that when weather is a factor, we rely on families to make a prudent decision based on the circumstances in your geographical area. We will always err on the side of safety.

2019-2020 Yearbook

All ASB students will receive a 2019-2020 yearbook and will be charged through FACTS. A 2020 Yearbook Refusal Form was sent home in this week's Wednesday envelope. If you would not like to receive this year's yearbook, please return this form and you will not be billed. Thank you!

We would not be here without the generosity of our incredible donors. Thank you! For questions and more information please reach out to Director of Advancement, Courtney Barker

Helpful Resources for the New Year

ASB is always looking to partner with our parents and students and ensure we are reaching our highest potential. As we enter 2020, here are just a few resources to consider for both you and your child:

Late registration for CYO volleyball, grades 5-8, is still available and will close at 11:59PM on January 15th. A late fee of $105 will be assessed per child.  Register HERE. Volleyball assessment times for 7th and 8th grade girls will be announced in next week's Bulldog Bulletin.

The ASB Basketball season is underway. Please visit the CYO Team Sideline for game schedules. Good luck with the season. Go Bulldogs!

Spring Sports - Registration Open!

NE Seattle Little League: Registration is now open for the 2020 season. For kids 4-6 NESLL's tee ball program is a great way to introduce your son or daughter to the game. The NESLL's softball program is the best in the region and a great way to get young girls involved in athletics and be a part of championship teams. And NESLL's baseball program is a great opportunity for boys and girls ages 5-16 to learn about teamwork and the fundaments of the game. Click HERE to begin the registration process and learn more.

Seattle Celtic Soccer Club:
Seattle Celtic will be holding spring season tryouts throughout the month of January. Celtic has a coaching staff with the perfect mix of energy, passion and expertise to help players develop and excel in a fun environment. Teams are all levels and for players born between 2002 and 2013. Tryouts are free to attend. Click HERE for more details.
