Dear ASB Families,

By now, most of you have heard that Fr. Kyle Manglona is no longer pastor at St. Bridget Parish.  Fr. Kyle announced his decision at both masses this weekend.  It is important to note that this was his decision, and that he is not moving to another parish but taking time to personally reflect on his vocation and the direction of his own life.  We send our prayers, love, and support to him as he discerns the direction to which God calls him as he moves forward.  I am personally grateful for Fr. Kyle’s joy, humor, wisdom, and partnership during this past year.

Fr. Kyle asked that I pass along the following message to our students and families:
I'd like to thank the students, faculty, staff, and families at Assumption-St. Bridget School for this incredible year. Although it was only for a short time, my life as a priest was truly enriched by the experience and I will hold it close in my heart forever. I will remember most especially the students, whose joy for life and learning was infectious! To them, I have only this advice: be good, smile, and put God first. You'll be amazed at how far that will get you. The world is in such great need of the women and men God has created you to be. I love you all very much! - Fr. Kyle

I know this loss is particularly challenging and surprising to many.  One of the greatest gifts Fr. Kyle brought was a rejuvenation to St. Bridget parish.  I would challenge us to honor that gift by continuing the work he started.  The strength of our parishes, of a school, and of a community rests in each of us.  Church is not one person, it is all of us.  Faith does not flow from a priest alone, it flows from the spirit that emerges when a community comes together in celebration of that faith.  Rejuvenation of any community may stem from one person or one experience, but it is only sustained through each member’s active commitment to and participation in building the mission.  As an alum and staff member of ASB and longtime parishioner of St. Bridget, my experience has always been that the times our community is the strongest are the times that we come together focused on the “why.”  Why are we here?  Why do we choose this place?  However you answer that question, I am willing to bet the answer is not one individual.  For many parishioners, Fr. Kyle reminded you of the answer to that question.  I ask that you keep that answer close as we continue to build both St. Bridget and Assumption parishes as well as ASB School.

I am a firm believer that God gives us the people we need when we need them and the experiences we need to grow closer to Him.  As we welcomed Fr. Kyle into our community, we now welcome Fr. Bill Heric. Fr. Heric joins us most recently from Christ Our Hope parish.  Please show him the grace, kindness, and partnership he needs as he takes on this role.

Thank you for all you do to support the communities of Assumption Parish, St. Bridget Parish, and ASB School.  We are fortunate to have the community we do, rooted in love and faith.

With gratitude,
Kathleen Conklin
