2018-19 ASB Calendar PDF

2019-20 Calendar (DRAFT)
May 22, 2019
Dear Students, Families, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of ASB School,
One thing most people do not know about me is that when I attend mass, there is always a point that brings tears to my eyes.  For years, I was embarrassed about this, but over time have learned to embrace it because it literally happens every time.  It is not always the same moment or same part of mass, but inevitably there will be something that moves me to the point of tears.  This past weekend, I was at 9:30 mass at St. Bridget and a young couple was having their baby boy baptized.  As a practicing Catholic my whole life, I have seen many, many baptisms, but for some reason, when this little guy was baptized, that was my weekly mass moment.  I teared up.  Who knows why?  Maybe it’s because I am in the throes of raising two teenagers, full of hormones and attitude, and both of whom have now grown taller than me, and I remembered that moment when they were each baptized as infants.  Maybe it was the sheer joy that the parents had on their faces as they watched their son be welcomed into the church.  Maybe it was the godparents standing by, supporting the people they loved.  Again, who knows?  What I can say is that I have learned that this is how the Holy Spirit works.  I don’t have the answers to why these moments happen when they do, but I do know that it is how God reminds me of the impact faith has in my own life and I am genuinely grateful for these experiences.  As we navigate this extremely busy time of the year, may we all have moments of gratitude and recognition of how God calls us to faith and community.
Along those lines, here is what I am particularly grateful for this week:
  • Our faculty and staff – Among the many end of year meetings, MAP testing, beautiful sunshine calling us to summer, and activities, they continue to provide an outstanding education to our students.  Thank you!
  • Our parents & families – Art parents, after school clubs, loop duty, centers, and more are still going strong until of the year, and parents continue to be willing to volunteer!  Thank you to everyone who has completed your 35 hours and more!
  • Our alumni - Grace Weiand, ASB class of '16, was recently elected ASB President at Seattle Prep and Kate Yerkes, also ASB '16 was picked as co-president at Bishop Blanchet. Congratulations to them!
  • Our students – We have middle school students applying for next year’s Student Leadership Team, fourth grade students heading to Burien to compete in the finale of Battle of the Books, fifth grade students wrapping up their long-awaited National Park reports, and more.  The students make me proud to be here every single day.
I am always grateful for experts and their advice.  A great article for the week:
Enjoy the long weekend!
Kathleen Conklin

Important announcement about Camp ASB!

Due to the beginning of the construction project at ASB School, Camp ASB will be off campus for the first week of Summer.  June 17-21, Camp ASB will be operating out of St. Bridget Parish.  We are incredibly lucky to have this as an option for our campers and we are very excited about the possibilities that we may have at this location, specifically Laurelhurst Park.  We will be coordinating with St. Bridget in the next couple of weeks and I will be sure to relay any important news to our camp families.  Camp ASB will return to ASB's Campus the week of June 24-28.

A huge thank you to Fr. Heric, Liz Houlihan, Michael Palmer and all of the staff at St. Bridget for making this a possibility for Camp ASB.
