January 9, 2019
Dear Students, Families, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of ASB School,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and restful break with family and friends.  This past weekend we celebrated the Feast of the Epiphany, where the wise men visit and bestow gifts upon the newborn baby Jesus.  This is always a good reminder to each of us to share our gifts openly and be grateful for the gifts of others.  I am so grateful for the gifts of each member of this community.  While it was great to have the time away to rejuvenate ourselves, I am so glad to be back in the building with the students and staff.  This is life-giving work and it’s hard to stay away for long!
As we begin 2019, our monthly Self-Regulation focus is “all our welcome.”  Our lessons will be focused on how our interactions, conversations, and behavior create a school environment that not only welcomes everyone, but celebrates and embraces each member of our community.  This month culminates with the annual celebration of Catholic Schools’ Week, a perfect time to remember why we choose Catholic education and each of our responsibility to live out the values and teachings of Jesus. Let us all recommit ourselves to making Assumption-St. Bridget a genuinely welcoming and accepting environment for all.
I want to wish the best of luck to all of our middle school thespians who will be auditioning for our spring musical, “Hello, Dolly!”  Not only will they be a part of what is sure to be an amazing and entertaining show, they have the opportunity to develop their confidence, leadership, and communication skills.  If your middle school student wants to audition, there is still time to sign up and try out.  Please contact Ms. Olsen with any questions.
On January 24th, our middle school students will be viewing the documentary “Screenagers.”  We are also having a showing that evening in the Fellowship Hall.  All are welcome and we highly encourage you to attend.  As I have mentioned, we are very fortunate to have the creator of the film, Dr. Ruston, with us for a question and answer session following the film.
The start of a new year is always a good time to share resources! Here are a few articles for parents that I’ve come across recently.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week.
Kathleen Conklin

Are you watching your kids scroll through their lives, with their rapid-fire thumbs and six-second attention spans? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. In SCREENAGERS, as with her award-winning documentaries on mental health, Delaney explores struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.
WHO:     All Parents, Friends, and Guests - parents & kids are welcome
WHAT:    A special screening of SCREENAGERS documentary film and in person Q&A session with filmaker Dr. Delaney Ruston
WHEN:  Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 7:00 pm
WHERE: Assumption Parish Fellowship Hall
WHY: ASB has the unique opportunity to welcome Dr. Delaney Ruston on campus to present the film and lead a Q&A session. This is a MUST SEE film and MUST ATTEND parent event - don't miss it!
This is a FREE event but we do need everyone to RSVP. Reserve your spot today!

Recording Volunteer Hours
Volunteering is an essential component to the collaboration and partnership between ASB School and our families. All families are required to complete 35 volunteer hours each school year. Volunteer hours are tracked quarterly. Families will receive a tracking sheet at the end of each quarter to complete and return to school. Parent Board coordinates volunteers to compile the hours and report final numbers to the school office. All incomplete hours will be billed via FACTS in June.
