March 20, 2019
Dear Students, Families, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of ASB School,
Today is the first day of spring and it has certainly felt like spring this week! What a gift to have such beautiful sunshine and warm weather. I hope each of you is able to get outside and soak up some much needed Vitamin D. It is getting warm in the classrooms as well. Please be sure students have water bottles, uniform shirts on so sweatshirts can be removed as needed, and free dress is still following the dress code.
I am excited to announce that we have filled the school counselor position. Please help me in welcoming Christy Mentele to our ASB team. Christy comes to us from Seattle Prep, where she has been registrar and completing her school counseling degree through Seattle University. Christy comes highly recommended and our interview team unanimously thought she was the top candidate for the job. Christy will be on campus throughout the spring working with Jenny and the other members of the team to get to know students, the systems we have in place, and make a smooth transition into next year. Seattle Prep is sad to lose Christy and we are lucky she will be joining us at ASB!
I look forward to seeing all of you at one of our State of the School meetings next week. These meetings allow me the opportunity to share the many wonderful things happening in our school as well as set the stage for next year. Please remember that these meetings are mandatory in order to re-enroll for next year
. Families who do not attend will be required to meet with me individually prior to receiving registration materials. Please make all efforts to be in attendance at one of the three offered times.
- Wednesday, March 27 at 6:30 PM
- Thursday, March 28 at 7:45 AM
- Thursday, March 28 at 12:00 PM
All meetings will take place in the Assumption Parish Fellowship Hall.
Please be sure to join us at mass this Sunday as our 4th
graders lead us in prayer and celebration. Join us at 9:30 AM at St. Bridget or 10:30 AM at Assumption! We are also hoping to see more of our middle school students altar serving and volunteering at our masses. Middle school students may count all hours of parish service towards their required service hours.
Finally, report cards will be emailed home on Friday. Be sure to take the time to celebrate the many successes, learning, and hard work each of our students have put into the last trimester!
Have a wonderful rest of the week and terrific weekend! For all you NCAA tournament fans, GO ZAGS!

Executive Functioning Workshop by Sally Kidder Davis M.Ed., CPC of the Hallowell-Todaro Center, presented by the ASB Diverse Learners Parent Support Group
If your child seems to have unusual difficulty getting organized, remembering things, doing homework, or finishing projects, you might be interested in learning more about the impact of executive function issues on children inside and outside the classroom. Executive functions are cognitive skills we all use to analyze tasks, break them into steps, and keep them in mind until we get things done. These skills allow us to manage our time effectively, memorize facts, understand what we read, solve multi-step problems, and organize our thoughts in writing. Several research studies suggest that well-developed executive functioning skills are actually more predictive of academic success than intelligence tests!
The good news is that with practice and guidance, parents and other caregivers can help students who struggle in some of these areas improve their skills.
Mark your calendars and join us to hear Sally Kidder Davis M.Ed., CPC, share her insight and guidance on executive functioning and various strategies to support our K-8th grade children on Tuesday, April 9th at 7PM at St. Bridget Church. Sally Kidder Davis has been a certified parent coach for over 15 years, has a private practice on Bainbridge Island and works at the Hallowell-Todaro ADHD Center in Seattle and Kirkland.
