Welcome to our June newsletter!

Hello all and welcome to the June newsletter for SNUG!

This year has been flying by and we can’t wait to spend long sunny days on the beach and have ice lollies for dinner. So what have we been up to over the last 4 weeks?

New Beginnings
We have been delighted to hear that one of our members has been discharged with her beautiful rainbow baby, Freddie. Born at 32+2 weighing 4lb 14oz little Freddie has been steadily growing away and now is back where he belongs.

Other projects
One future project we are very excited to be involved with is the Peer Support Research Project. The application has submitted by the Peninsula Medical School, and we are waiting to hear back of the outcome of this.

Colouring sheets
This month we have been delighted to develop colouring sheets for siblings of the babies who get admitted to the neonatal unit. Being a new big brother or sister can be difficult for any child, but especially so when they don’t get to instantly take their new sibling home and have to share their parents even more so than otherwise. Our sheets are a small token of becoming more involved and have been very popular; we keep seeing them on the incubators! If you would like a copy of these sheets, get in contact with us and we can send you a printable version.

We are both delighted and ever so slightly in awe that one of our supporters, Amy Matravers, who is preparing to complete a sky dive in aid of raising funds for SNUG in the next few weeks. If you would like to sponsor her for her brave efforts, you can do so here. If you would like to jump out of a plane yourself, or complete any other fundraising activity then we would love to hear from you. Either contact us via our Facebook page or email us.

Marvellous Munchkins
Munchkins Day Nursery in Exeter, one our ongoing supporters, will be holding a family fun day on Saturday 4th July from 10am until 1pm with funds raised going to SNUG and we’d love to see you all there! They were recently were assessed by Ofsted and we are so thrilled for them that they received the Outstanding rating. We know from holding our monthly community meets with them just how hard they work and how happy the children are, so this is truly well deserved.

Community Meet
Talking of Munchkins, this week we are looking forward to our community meet this coming Thursday on the 11th June. This month we are making clay footprints for Father’s Day and if your snug bug has been through neonatal care in the last two years and you would like to connect with fellow parents, we would love to meet you.

Thanks to everyone has helped with our fabulous SNUG videos over the last month. Now the filming is over, they are being used to train others in the issues that affect parents both on the neonatal unit and once at home. Raising awareness of these issues can go a long way to increasing the understanding in the emotions and practicalities us parents may face.

Website Updating
Lastly, keep your eyes peeled on our website over the coming weeks. We are developing a new section based around the sensory needs and signals of young babies that we hope will be especially helpful for new parents coming home from the hospital as the change from neonatal to home can feel quite a big jump.
That’s all for now! Do keep up to date with us throughout the month on both our Facebook and Twitter accounts. If you have any news or efforts to share with us, we are always all ears!

Love from,
