North Texas Giving Day is this Thursday, a week into Hispanic Heritage Month and in the middle of The National Migration Week 2022, its theme being Building the Future with Migrants and Refugees. In announcing this year’s theme, Pope Francis said that history has shown that new arrivals play a “fundamental role” in social and economic growth. “This continues to be true in our own day. Their work, their youth, their enthusiasm, and their willingness to sacrifice enrich the communities that receive them,” he wrote. Hence, what better way to honor this amazing coincidence than to donate to our organization?
As an immigration legal services provider in North Texas, the majority of our clients have Latin American heritage. A well-known fact is that most of the U.S. west of the Mississippi was once under Spanish rule. As a reference, look at the  U.S. map, circa 1800. So, in a historical sense, immigrants from Latin America "didn't cross the border: the border crossed them!"
An important part of Opening Doors' mission as a humanitarian agency is to help migrants and refugees acquire legal immigration status in our country and become U.S. citizens, like many of us. 
For Opening Doors, every month is really World Heritage Month. We strive to help every migrant, every refugee from all walks of life and all corners of the world resettle in this our land. After all, This Land Is Our Land, from California to the New York island, and our mission is to inform each one of our neighbors who qualify about their legal right to stay in this land and to help them do so. Thus, in this land then, they may realize their potential to the fullest and live happy, fulfilling lives without feeling excluded or that they don't belong here, ever again.

Most of our clients came to this "Land of the Free" seeking what our Declaration of Independence states — their rights as human beings: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Our mission follows these truths. We currently serve close to 1,000 clients yearly, and our services include immigration legal screenings, immigration legal petitions before USCIS (U.S. Immigration and Citizenship Services, a branch of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security), and assistance to Asylum Seeking families and individuals in collaboration with the Refugee Support Network. We also engage a significant number of volunteers, mostly college students, to help in this mission, giving them the opportunity to make a big difference in the lives of their neighbors.

We strive to provide low bono (reduced fee) and pro bono (no fee) immigration legal services, so we count on donations and grants to balance our budget. But we need your help to continue providing these services.
