Welcome to Invigorate Life Counseling's Seasonal News for Winter 2019!

Happy holidays to each of you! As we close out 2019, we are excited to share our approach to collaboration, a workshop featured at the national art therapy conference, an offer for couples seeing support, and more.

The Year of Collaboration
We are a community of therapists who actively collaborate with each other, other clinicians and specialists, and our clients to facilitate encouragement, change, and healing. Collaboration is a powerful tool! This year, in 2019, we focused on growing our collaborative style as a team with great success, and are excited to look to a new year and new focus!
Art Therapy & Indigenous Intergenerational Trauma
Our own expressive arts therapist Patricia Welch, MA, ATR-P presented a compelling workshop at the annual American Art Therapy Association (AATA) conference this November in Kansas City. She has integrated art therapy approaches bridging the concepts of the Indigenous Medicine Wheel, the Expressive Therapies Continuum, and Individual Psychology's concept of Holism for healing Native American Urban Youth who are experiencing historical and intergenerational trauma.
Participants engaged in an art-based experiential session synthesizing these complex and meaningful concepts.
View the abstract & research that the workshop was based on here.

Hannah is now accepting clients at our St. Paul Grand Avenue office! Hannah Kleese, MA, ATR, LPCC, brings warmth and compassion to a therapeutic process that promotes a cooperative journey between client and therapist. Hannah works with adults, adolescents, and children from all walks of life uses a blended approach that includes visual art, writing, meditation, and talk therapy through a neuroscience based and trauma-informed lens. Couples Live Experiential
In October, Katie attended couple's therapy guru Terry Real's two day training where he facilitated live therapy demonstrations with six real couples. Katie felt fortunate to witness the bravery of each couple to be open, vulnerable, and willing to work on their relationship in front of a room of therapists. Terry was an incredible teacher demonstrating compassion and warmth paired with an incredibly useful and refreshing pragmatic style. Learn more about Terry Real, LCISW, here.
Free Consult for Couples
New year, new start! Theressa Durenberger, MA, LMFT, is offering a free in-person 30 minute consult for couples at her Wayzata office. Theressa specializes in working with couples and provides support for a range of martial stages from pre-marital counseling to navigating the process of divorce. Arrange a session with Theressa here
What We Are Reading
This Winter, the official ILC book club is reading "Maybe You Should Talk to Someone: A Therapist, Her Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed" by Lori Gottlieb, MFT, showing us the therapeutic process from both sides of the couch—as both therapist and patient. A quote from the book reads; “In therapy we aim for self-compassion (Am I human?) versus self-esteem (a judgment: Am I good or bad?).” Join us in reading (or listening to) this authentic and candid book or watch Gottlieb's TED talk here
