Parent Resources
Growing With from
Fuller Youth Institute

In the book Growing With, authors Kara Powell and Steven Argue look at the territory parents enter when kids reach their mid-to-late teens and emerge into young adulthood. Filled with brand-new research and stories from remarkable families nationwide, Growing With gives three ground-breaking strategies to develop empathy, dive into tough discussions, work towards solutions, and take the next faithful step on a mutual journey of intentional growth that trusts God to transform you and your family.

This week, we want to share with you the second episode of the Growing With Podcast.  In this episode, Dr. Kara Powell interviews marriage and family therapists Sharon and Terry Hargrave. Sharon and Terry share their  wisdom on parenting for the long haul. Much of the conversation talks about parenting adult children, in which you might be thinking "I'll skip this because I'm not at that stage."  I encourage you to take a listen from parents who have two children who are now independent, married, and journeying the path of emerging adulthood. Sharon and Terry share some of the wins and some of the moments they wish they could change for the better from parenting adolescents.

Podcast: "Parenting for the Long Haul"
For the City: Linton
July 22-25, 2019

Pastor Rich and Charlotte Cook of First Baptist in Linton have asked us to partner with them again this summer to hold a VBS and love the people of Linton well. We are so excited that they have asked us to come back and are grateful for the friendship we have with First Baptist in Linton.

We will be leading the same VBS, The Incredible Race, that Century Baptist will be doing June 4-7.  While it is not required, we strongly suggest that if your student will be serving in Linton, that he/she serves in some capacity during the VBS at Century as hands-on training is the best way to prepare to lead VBS in Linton.

Cost is $75. The team will depart on Monday, July 22 at 9 am.* We will be staying overnight in Linton at Pastor Rich and Charlotte's house.  One additional home, June and Spencer Larson's (who just happen to be my mom and dad) may be added.

Do you want to be a part of this missions experience with your son/daughter? If you would like to serve alongside your son/daughter during the week, whether it's 1 day or 2 days or all 3, whether it's in the morning for service projects, or during VBS from 3-5 pm, please connect with me. I'd love to chat with you about how you could serve with your son/daughter.

Registration forms are available here:  http://bit.ly/msmforthecitylinton2019

*If students want to be a part of this missions experience and are unable to stay overnight in Linton all 3 nights, please contact me.
MSM Summer Trip | Lions Ridge - Bozeman, MT
Aug. 7-11, 2019

The MSM has a 3-year rotation for summer trips: CIY Mix Conference, missions trip, and Lions Ridge Adventure trip. These trips are designed to meet the three benchmarks and characteristics of a disciple that matter most to Middle School students: identity, community (belonging), and city (purpose).

This summer, we will head to Bozeman, MT Aug. 7-11 (Wed. through Sun.) for a few days of digging into our identity as disciples of Jesus. Activities will include rock climbing, hiking, Mountain Man/Woman Challenges, and tubing down a REAL lazy river!

The cost for this trip is $299. This covers transportation, lodging, all activities, and meals at the camp.

We are Adding to Our Sunday Morning MSM Team!

Thank you for encouraging your son/daughter to come to The Basement on Sunday mornings for Sunday School and breakfast! Over the last year, we are incredibly grateful for how Jesus has been drawing Middle Schoolers to Himself, helping them grow in their understanding of who they are and Whose they are.  Our numbers have jumped from 20 students to 30 to 40 plus students. Jesus is so awesome. If you are  interested  in being on  our  Sunday morning team or if you know someone that would be a great addition to the MSM team, let me  know or  send them to this link: http://bit.ly/sayyestomsm
We are so grateful to be able to partner with you as you lead and guide your child's  discipleship journey. We are here to resource and support you. Thank you for letting us be a part of your family's life!

Sincerely,
April Wahl
