Writers' Edit
Hello <<First Name>>. In this CUT Talking (writers’ edit), we reassure CUT writers concerned about recent VAT changes, illustrate what CUT is doing to protect your creative property, and ask for video material to help us to promote your e-books.

Protecting writers’ creative work

Did you know that every time CUT sells one of your e-books, we embed into it a CUT e-Tag (patent applied for)? This is a hidden identifier which enables us to track a copy of an e-book back to the person who bought it from the CUT site. This means that if you suspect that anyone is abusing your creative property, we have a tool to help to track down the miscreant.

Writers’ concerns over VAT changes

Recent press articles about the change in VAT rules for people providing digital services (including e-books) to countries outside the UK, have caused concern for some writers. We are delighted to reassure you that for sales made through CUT, you have nothing to worry about. Read more

Maria Herring
Abimbola Gbemi Alao
Welcome to Maria Herring and Abimbola Gbemi Alao, two of the many writers who have joined CUT recently. Maria lives in France and loves to write about “the weird and wonderful, the frightening and fantastic”, while Abi is a Devon-based performing storyteller, and a writer and translator of children’s books. We look forward to receiving further submissions from them.

The value of video

Videos provide many benefits to a website. They add interest, and increase user engagement with the site, but they also provide very valuable content for online search tools. We are building the CUT You Tube channel and we are keen to increase the selection of videos of writers reading excerpts from their work. Together, we can use these to promote your e-books. Do you have any video material we can use? Email us at
