Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10

Reminder: MLK Day Holiday

Our traditional MLK Day Chapel and service projects day have been cancelled. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day will be a school holiday.

We have checked with many local non-profits and nursing homes, etc, and in the best interests of all, they have declined our assistance. Instead of coming to school for half a day and dismissing prior to lunch, we have decided to forego all projects for that day. Enjoy an extra day off!

- Mrs. Hierholzer

Chapel

Grammar School

Mrs. Brantley brought a quilt to chapel and asked the students what the main characteristics were of the quilt. They responded that it was made with a bunch of different patches, sewn into one. She acknowledged that they were right, and turned it over to reveal that on the back side was a single piece of fabric, holding the patches together. Mrs. Brantley said to the students that this quilt represented us, patches of different shapes, color tones, and textures, with GOD having our backs, holding us all together. She wrapped the quilt around herself and stated that we do not need to fall apart, or throw a "hissy fit", as a student elaborated, because God always has all of our backs.

Heritage               7      8     14     11    -     40
New Braunfels      8      8      8      17    -     41

Coach's Comments: Losing at the buzzer is always a tough way to go out. However, playing a great team like New Braunfels and taking them down to the wire was a good way to end the preseason and walk into district. We will never be okay with losing but the lessons we took from this game will be huge for us down the road. It is one of those games we needed, being such a young team. Our athletes were put into an environment that we could not simulate in practice, and only the game reps would've been useful to us.
Heritage               7      8     14     11    -     38
Atonement          10     11    10      6     -     37

Leading Scorers: Madison Brantley 12, Eleanor Loggie 11, Josie Fevig 10

Coach's Comments: To open up district play with a win is always important. To be on the other side of a late win as just the other day we lost at the buzzer was a massive boost to our confidence. I told the girls that that loss would help us later down the road; I didn't know down the road meant five days later. It was a close and ugly game for the Lady Eagles, but they managed to keep their composure and stay in the game and in the last quarter, found a way to win. That is credit to them taking everything we fixed and going over in practice this last week. For them to come into a game and make those adjustments so quickly is a huge blessing to a coach. I am super proud of this team. As you can see, we learned a lot from the New Braunfels game. With this great game behind us, we now look forward to playing a well-coached and well disciplined San Angelo Cornerstone team on Tuesday night on their court.

Boys

Heritage               8      11     11     4    -     34
New Braunfels    23      16     12     6    -     57

Leading Scorers: J Hoermann 13, J Fritzsch 9, J Henderson 6, A Hickey 4, R Shelton 2

Coach's Comments: We played a very good team TAPPS 3A New Braunfels Christian team. They applied a lot of pressure on us and it was good for us to see that early in our season. We have some young guards that hadn’t seen that type of speed and pressure and that’s definitely going to help us get better. I’m proud of my guys that in game four of the season they are starting to put some things together. Can’t wait to get back on the court Tuesday night vs Atonement.
Heritage               14      22     23     11    -     70
Atonement              4       3        5       0    -     12

Leading Scorers: J Hoermann 26, J Fritzsch 7, A Hickey 7, J Henderson 6, T Jons 7, R Shelton 6, R Thomson 6, J Roberts 3 , F Sawtelle 2

Coach's Comments: This was a good game for our boys. To see them fly around and put pressure on the ball was fun to watch. We played a lot of our young guys tonight, and it was good for these guys to see some minutes and gain some confidence. We are definitely going to need them down the stretch as we get further into our season. The more depth that we have, the more pressure we will be able to apply. Senior Josh Hoermann led the way with 26 points and has been just an excellent floor general for us.

PSAT Date Set

The National Merit Scholarship Qualifying PSAT is scheduled for Tuesday morning on Jan 26. All of our Heritage tenth and eleventh grade students will take the exam. Eighth and ninth graders will take a shorter practice version of the test on the same morning. This event was postponed from its traditional mid-October date to accommodate inconsistent Fall semester school schedules.

Community Event

The City of Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the second annual Kid Fish Event at Live Oak Creek located within Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park. The event is scheduled for January 22 - 24, 2021. Live Oak Creek will be stocked with rainbow trout just north of the crossing to the golf course. In order to give the trout time to acclimate to the water, we ask that you do not begin to fish until Friday, January 22nd. Families are encouraged to continue fishing through Sunday, January 24th.

Please remember to bring your own fishing equipment and supplies. Due to COVID-19, there will not be any booths or educational stations at the event this year. Anyone over the age of 17 must have a valid fishing license. For more information on licensing, please visit the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s website at:
