Congressman Recognizes Heritage Senior

Senior Hannah Bray received the Exceptional Senior award from local U.S. Representative Chip Roy. See the announcement below:
Ms. Hannah Bray,
I hope this email finds you and your family well and safe during the current COVID-19 situation.
Congratulations on being awarded the Congressman Roy Exceptional Senior Award! You came highly recommended by the Heritage School faculty, and Congressman Roy is proud of your diligence and service to our community.
Originally, Congressman Roy planned to present the Exceptional Senior Award certificates in person, however, due to the current public health pandemic, he is not able to do so at this time. However, in the coming weeks our office will send a follow-up email to coordinate an online method for Congressman Roy to offer his congratulations to those selected for this prestigious award.
In the meantime, our office will also be sending your physical certificate via U.S. Mail, so make sure you keep an eye out for that!
Thank you for your understanding during this unusual time. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about the Exceptional Senior Award. Again, on behalf of Congressman Roy and everyone on our staff, congratulations on receiving this award!
Jaclyn Hall
Field Representative, Kerrville District Office
Office of Congressman Chip Roy, TX-21

Thoughts on Quarantine
from Heritage Parent

Sitting here watching two of my children laughing while attempting to sew masks, I feel thankful. Thankful for this community and the leadership of everyone involved. We are focusing on the positive that has come from this devastating virus. Family. The together time is such a blessing. We have planted a huge vegetable garden, sewed masks and scrunchies, paint by number, cooked and watched movies.  Weekly zooms with my distant family and friends will hopefully continue when this is over. Faith and I even exchanged a Tik Tok challenges with my long distant friends. Our college student is home and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Best of all, Faith gets to take her beloved cat Beezus to class every day. I hope when things get back to “normal” we still hang on to a bit of this more relaxed schedule. I think it has shown us that running in circles makes us lose a little bit of what is important, each other.  We are living more simply and paying attention to what is important, our health. I will never take for granted the little things like hugs and toilet paper, LOL.
The school has done an amazing job and I am sure it was not easy. Our hearts go out the Seniors and we hope they get the closure they need. The economic impact is rough, but we will get through this. The cancelled events and trips are hard to accept, but instead of focusing on what we cannot control, let’s all try to enjoy the last weeks of quarantine.  I pray for all those affected by the illness and thank all the nurses and doctors on the front lines.

Please continue to follow the guidelines and let’s squash the curve.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Below is an update from the Texas Private Schools Association. They are providing daily weekday updates on the progression of COVID-19 in Texas and its implication on private schools in Texas:

Texas Cases of COVID-19:
There are now 10,230 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in 170 out of 254 counties, 199 deaths, and 106,134 people tested in Texas.  More state details are available here.  The projected peak in Texas according to IHME has shifted again to April 22nd.

The Lt. Governor joined the call today to commend superintendents, heads of school, and everyone in education on the incredible work that has been done to keep kids learning.  He mentioned that the death rate in Texas from COVID-19 is the lowest per capita in the country at this point, so social distancing seems to be working right now and he is optimistic that we can get back to some kind of normal soon.

Kindergarten student working on her writing!
First grade made resurrection rolls for Zoom class this week.
First grade enjoyed art class with Mrs. Ivers and finding fun and creative ways to practice math facts!
The 6th Grade Bible class is studying Paul’s Letters and the joys and disappointments associated with his ministry. This week the students had to pretend they were hired as a minister and think of the joys and disappointments they might experience. During our Zoom class on Thursday, Pastor Rob Holster, FCA area rep. - Austin Loza, and Pastor John Music joined our class to share their experiences with joy and disappointment in ministry.
In our College Calling Communication elective, Finn Sawtelle delivered a presentation on Hal Elrod’s book The Miracle Morning.  The presentation was such a delight that we agreed Finn needs to share the message with the upper school, which he will do at chapel on April 22nd. As a teaser, here is one quote from Finn's presentation, by John Maxwell:

"The secret to your success is found in your daily routine. You will never change your life until you change something you do daily."
