Perhaps I will stay with you, or even spend the winter, so that you may send me on my way wherever I may go.
1 Corinthians 16:6

Grammar School

With the MPAC lights off, Mrs. Brantley presented the "Ten Commandments of Halloween" which each student held in front of the other students during chapel. The commandments were 10 Bible verses that exemplified how, instead of keeping us in the dark, Jesus is the light of truth that shines upon us (represented as the flashlight).

Upper School

Joe and Sydney Richburg Meek spoke at Upper School chapel, and, among other topics, discussed how sometimes scripture can seem abstract, but many times authors of books of the Bible describe real events and God's works.

Coach’s Comments: “These past 2 games have been amazing. We talk often about what Hupomone means and how to exemplify it on the field and in our lives. If you saw these past two Eagle wins, you saw what it looks like in action.

Both Gloria Deo and Summit are very capable teams and, as of 2 weeks ago, were both in the hunt for the North Division crown. To be able to beat our toughest opponents in back-to-back weeks to take the crown for ourselves is quite an accomplishment. The manner in which we won these games makes the accomplishment even sweeter.

To beat Gloria Deo, our tired, worn down team was able to hold the Lions out of the endzone despite them having a first and goal at the five yard line with 90 seconds to play. That defensive stand was the culmination of 10 weeks of blood, sweat, and tears. The defensive coaches have done an amazing job to get this young team to the point where they could stop a potent offense in such a situation. Offensively, we survived some uncharacteristically sloppy play to score 7 TD’s, led by Bridger Welch and Will Warner’s 3 TD’s each.

The Summit victory was even sweeter. Their defense had only allowed 24 total points this season coming into the game. The Eagle offense played a phenomenal game and were not stopped all night. The key to the game was our ability to get timely blocking from everyone on the field. As the night went on, our intensity simply wore Cedar Park down. Try as they might, they could not find a counter to Bridger and Will running behind our 6th grade blocking corps.

Having won the North Division, we have earned the right to play for the STFC title against the winner of the South Division. Next Thursday, our boys will have the opportunity to bring home another Eagle championship. To get from our first practice of 12 players, 10 of whom had never played 6-man football, to the Championship Game is a testament to the desire and hard work of these boys. I could not be prouder of them!

Game ended in the 4th quarter

On the win vs Bracken
This was a huge win and is a very big deal to win in a convincing fashion. We have been grinding for the past couple months and trying to put the puzzle together. Each week, these guys play better and better. Technically, this was game 4 and we feel like our best football is in front of us. It takes time to gel and sync up and get communication down. Every single player, including the rookies, are working their tails off everyday in practice. The younger guys are so important to this team. Without them working hard, we would not be able to have the success that we are having. They are selfless servant leaders. I am also proud of the leadership from our upper classmen. They are encouraging one another, including the young guys, when it would be easy for them to become complacent with the success that they have had.  Needless to say, this is the last thing they are going to allow to happen.

Bracken is a good football team, in a good program, with a great coaching staff. To "45" a team of that caliber is special. We played vintage smash-mouth Freddy defense. Holding this Bracken team to 19 takes fundamentals and a lot of trust. The players are trusting their teammates to do their jobs, and those are important intangibles. I like the way that this team handles adversity as we did have a few hiccups, which is expected, and they got down on themselves. They pick each other up, play with class, and are humble. The coaching staff is working hard and figuring out the puzzle.

However, the season is young and we still have a lot of football ahead of us. We have our sights set high and we have a lot of work to do if we want to get there.

On the next three weeks
With the COVID cancellation from Living Rock last week, it put us in a tough spot in not having a game this week. Each season brings with it new challenges, and this season certainly is no exception. We will get creative and find ways to stay sharp and grow. We have plenty of upside to us.

The following two weeks we finish up district play with San Antonio Atonement and San Marcos Hill Country. It is important over these next 3 weeks for us to grow and work hard to make sure that we are ready for anything the playoffs may throw at us.  Technically, we are still a young team.  There are many lessons we can learn in a short time.
