Myers Park Medley - Sun 26 Feb 2017

The bands are booked, the performers are polishing up their acts and the food and craft stall owners are standing by to deliver K’ Road’s annual family friendly event, the Myers Park Medley.  Set amongst the stately palms and lush foliage of local Myers Park, the event attracts visitors from all over the city, many of whom will be traversing K’ Road throughout the event’s 2-5pm timeframe this Sunday.  So be sure to break out your specials and install your best merchandise displays and take advantage of the increased foot traffic the event is expected to attract. AUCKLAND PRIDE FESTIVAL 10 – 26 February, 2017
K’ Road has a comprehensive line up of events scheduled for Auckland Pride Festival 2017.  A highlight will be The Proud Party in Galatos St, which will see Studio nightclub taken over by Pride partygoers and the street itself closed for the evening.  There’ll be chill-out couches, DJs, performers, food stalls, late-night surprises and large-scale projections courtesy of the FAFSWAG Arts Collective.

On K’ Road three exhibitions will offer LGBGTI artists’ perspectives and a K’ Road Scaffold Decoration Project just east of Pitt St is set to take on rainbow hues. K' Road Pride exhibitions include:
The Windows Are Alive
I Hate You, I Hate You, Because I Don’t Hate You; I Love You
A Room of Our Own

The KBA, with the help of some zealous artists, have been giving the scaffolding which arrived on the street recently ‘the treatment’.  A number of upcoming events set to be celebrated in the precinct will be reflected in the scaffold’s decoration over the next three to four months, turning something unsightly into a colourful attraction.  The rainbow colours of Auckland Pride Festival are currently installed on the structure to be followed by references to the Myers Park Medley, White Night, Easter and the Master’s Games.

The scaffolding runs between Leo O’ Malley’s and La Gonda Arcade and activation of it has been sponsored by Auckland Council and the Methodist Central Parish Church.

Our two First Thursdays events for 2017 will be held on 6 July and 7 December.  Themes are yet to be decided, but be sure to mark the dates on your calendars and start thinking about fun and engaging ways you can market your business on the night.

AUCKLAND FRINGE 21 Feb – 12 March

This week also sees the start of Auckland Fringe, an arts event which embraces ‘inclusivity, celebration of otherness and having a dang good time’.   K’ Road events include Composure at Samoa House and CRAP MUSIC RAVE PARTY at GalatosLive.  For the full programme of events visit

Thank you to all of you who participated in the KBA Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations.  It was nice to see the red and black wall hangings painted by our resident calligraphy expert adorning shop windows and walls. And, let’s hope, the invitations to prosperity bore fruit.  The red lantern and streamer displays on the street scaffolding were also a hit with residents and shoppers.

The information below is taken from a quarterly report prepared by Marketview Statistics for Auckland Council based on BNZ credit card and Eftpos spending for the period Oct – Dec 2016. It shows spending in the K’ Road precinct was up 13.8% over the same period in 2015.  The average transaction values and transaction numbers were also up over the same quarter in 2015 by 5.1% and 8.2% respectively.  Full report here

It has been suggested that a KBA FB page exclusive to the precinct’s business and property owners might be a good idea.  We would appreciate feedback from you on this.  One of our store owners had what appeared to be a planned burglary executed on it by a four-woman team recently.  The main culprit had a baby in a pushchair as cover and three scouts in tow to shield her.  The store has CCTV footage of the burglary which, if we had a member page, is the type of information we could share on it.  Please send your thoughts on this to
