Western Maine Play Museum has great news to share: the receipt of additional funding, the approaching achievement of our building renovation goal, and more.
The board is pleased to announce a $7500 grant from the Morton-Kelly Foundation to help toward the renovation of their building.  Bangor Savings Bank has also recently donated $2500 to the cause.  There remains now only about  $23K to finally meet the  $350K required for them to be awarded the $150K grant from the Sandy River Foundation, to reach their reconstruction goal of $500,000.
Board members have been working on fundraising since June 2014, and have raised over $100K through grants; the balance has come from individual and business donations.  After they reach the  $500K reconstruction goal, the museum will need an additional $50K to furnish most of the exhibits to  have the museum open this year.  Completing the Play Village will be the next major fundraising goal, but once the museum is operating, finding grant funding should be easier, since WMPM will then be eligible to apply for a greater number of grants.
Other good news to share: a new printer was recently donated to the museum, a personal gift from Tina Riley, Maine House Representative from District 74 of Jay.  In addition,  an extensive set of trains for the Train Room has been donated by Michael Reid.
This fall's craft fairs were very productive for the museum; many area residents will be enjoying hand-painted glassware made by board members, which are still available by commission. Museum logo Tshirts, hats,  LLBean jackets, and Celtic harp CDs featuring Academy Hill School students and Lori Lewis are also still available for sale.  Contact Elaine Fitzgerald (ilndbnd@gmail.com) or Lori Lewis (lorilewis@myfairpoint.net) for more information.
"Life Perks," a new specialty coffee shop, will be opening early this spring in the former Wilton Hardware Store.  It will be a great destination for families after visiting the museum.  Good news for WMPM, and great news for Wilton.
Stay tuned for upcoming information about a fundraising Gala in mid-March, with live music, games, and lots of fun.
