Math Rap Double Feature: register here
Tues. Jan. 12, 2021 (1:00 – 2:00pm Eastern / 10:00 – 11:00am Pacific)

Join us next week for a musical treat for all ages, featuring:

LaMar “Mr. Q-U-E” Queen and David “Mr. D” Landix of Music Notes bring a math concert like you’ve never seen before! These teachers from Los Angeles, CA combine math and music to show that math is cool. Just don’t be surprised when you start dancing and singing along!

Professor Lyrical, a mathematics professor who is also a rapper, will demonstrate through performing, speaking and crowd participation how making rap songs — both written in advance and through improvisational “free-styling” — has helped him become a better mathematician and professor and how the process of thinking like a mathematician has also helped him as a creative performer. You'll help create a new rap song on the fly, and try your hand at math and logic activities.

What's the Big Idea? Game Show on Feb. 16

Get Your Game Show On with The Young People's Project

It's the game show where the audience is the judge, with live interaction via the Kahoot online quiz game! Six mathematicians will take center stage with the single objective of presenting a very big or deep idea in math to a panel of six student judges as they — and you — vote on how well each mathematician conveys a big idea in math. Every vote counts, so come ready to listen and play along live with our hosts!

This live session can be streamed to classrooms or at home, and features culturally responsive, grounding, and sustaining approaches to engage young people with mathematics.
