Named 2016 "Best of Baltimore" by Baltimore Magazine

We have had a wonderful year of performing new music, gathering new audiences, and working with some amazing composers. One highlight for me was performing John Adams' Son of Chamber Symphony. That piece was one of the first "modern" compositions that I fell in love with as a horn player, and it was great to work with Jordan and the rest of our ensemble to bring it to life last May. I have thoroughly enjoyed performing all the works we've premiered. I've also enjoyed getting to meet many of you, our fans, and supporters!

Below, you'll find information about our Season 2 campaign. We're passionate about our music and it's a privilege to share it with you. I do hope you'll consider giving today, and I thank you for your continued support!

Season 2 Campaign

As we gear up for our second season here in Baltimore, we need your help. We are starting our Season 2 IndieGoGo campaign to recruit the support we need to get this season off and running.

Symphony Number One is a conduit in service of modern composers and diverse audiences. Your support will have a lasting impact on not only the lives of our featured composers, but also on the chamber orchestra repertoire.

Where Your Money Goes

In addition to allowing us to commission substantial works by great and emerging composers, the funds you provide directly underwrite the costs of producing our concerts and enable us to:

  • Pay our core ensemble and guest artists
  • Book the best concert venues
  • Produce and market high-quality commercial recordings
  • Organize our intimate Beethoven’s Kitchen Series
  • Publicize our concerts
  • Cover production costs such as lighting, sound, and recordings

Moving Forward

Symphony Number One had a successful debut season, presenting a number of well-received performances: we received two great reviews in the Baltimore Sun, a feature in Baltimore STYLE, our music was played on MPT Artworksand we were just named "Best of Baltimore" in Baltimore Magazine!

Symphony Number One is slated to bring you another year full of innovative programming, and  A Taste of Symphony Number One is just two weeks away. Get your tickets NOW! Season Tickets also Available.

About Symphony Number One

SYMPHONY NUMBER ONE is Baltimore’s newest chamber orchestra. SYMPHONY NUMBER ONE offers a unique and innovative model for presenting new music by bringing together great composers of the past, virtuoso performers of the present, and the leading compositional voices of the future.

The orchestra was founded in 2015 and has premiered new works by over a dozen composers, released two albums (available for stream or download on Spotify iTunes) and performed at Baltimore's inaugural Light City Festival.

The ensemble develops close working relationships with young and emerging composers, gives new works multiple hearings, produces substantial recordings, and creates unique concert experiences for the public by juxtaposing new music with works from the classical canon.
