What's Up at Mosaic Centre?

There is a lot that goes on inside Mosaic Centre.  In addition to our housing and other support work we offer a variety of activities, aimed at healing, learning and community building.  We encourage our friends to check out the many opportunities and drop in to participate.

The following article was provided by Christie, one of our long time staff members:

There is a true story of a young woman who faced a great deal of trauma in her life.  Such a great deal in fact that she could not speak to anyone.  She was unable to find a home due to the fact that she could not communicate. The young woman was taken to a treatment facility that used horses as part of their therapy.  As time passed she started to take care of one particular horse. She groomed him, and petted him and eventually began to talk to him. Through the horse she began to feel safe for the first time in her life. This was why she was able to begin to speak.  The safer she felt, the easier it was to begin to speak to other people as well. The horse was the stepping stone to feeling safe and secure for the very first time in her life.

In many ways this girl's story is similar to many of our friend's experiences at the centre. It is their safe place. A place where they can be themselves. A place where people know their names.  The centre is the first place many of our friends can let their guard down and let their voices be heard, their stories be told.  Mosaic Centre is a place where everyone is welcome and everyone is valued.  It is everyone's horse.
