Keyne-O Series 2019
Sunday 3rd March - Loughton Valley Park
The first in a series of informal orienteering events suitable for beginners, more experienced orienteers and runners. The courses cover the parkland along the Loughton brook, including Roman remains and the famous Concrete Cows. Longer courses will also have an interesting urban element, taking in some of the surrounding housing estates.
If you haven't tried orienteering before, someone will be available to explain the basics and point you in the right direction. Entry is on the day so no need to pre-enter. No special equipment is needed - just wear whatever you would for a walk or run in the park.
Amble - 2.7 km - Very straightforward. Suitable for complete novices, whatever their level of fitness. Does not cross any roads. Please take care through the underpass close to the start of the course, as the footbridge is narrow and dark.
Courses available will be:
Trot - 4.2 km - Suitable for confident navigators of all ages. Does not cross any roads. Includes a railway footbridge which may be slippery when wet or icy.
Short run - 5.1 km - Similar to Trot but crosses several estate roads and is not suitable for unaccompanied juniors under 16. Includes a railway footbridge which may be slippery when wet or icy.
Run - 6.4 km - A longer course that is an extensive tour of the area, only suitable for fit and reasonably experienced orienteers. Crosses many estate roads and is not suitable for unaccompanied juniors under 16. Includes a railway footbridge which may be slippery when wet or icy.
Parking is at Milton Keynes City Discovery Centre, Bradwell Abbey. Postcode MK13 9AP.
