Greensand Ridge Relay
Saturday 22 June 2019
Once a year (for the past 31 years) SMOC has hosted the Greensand Ridge Relays, a long-distance-footpath relay event for teams of 6 runners, covering 34 miles from Leighton Buzzard to Northill in Bedfordshire. It’s mostly contested by local running clubs, and apart from being a great day out, has proved useful in getting SMOC’s name known in the local running community, as well being quite a useful funds generator for the club.
Like most of our events it takes a little manpower to put on, so I’d like to ask your help to contribute to the race’s ongoing success. We need to staff the start, the finish and 5 changeover points along the way, to make sure the teams pass through safely, and to record times for the results. If you can spare 2 to 3 hours some time between 10am and 6pm on Saturday 22nd June it would be a great help, and I can guarantee a fun and friendly afternoon, looking after our always cheerful band of competitors.
Each changeover needs two or three marshals, so it would suit a couple or family, and if we get enough volunteers I can allocate experienced campaigners to help you if you haven’t done it before. We’ll be using the electronic timing equipment – full training provided if required! All the race details including the changeover locations are on the SMOC website under “Greensand Ridge Relay”.
At the end of the race all the teams, and I hope SMOC helpers, congregate in the garden of the Crown at Northill for the prize-giving and a welcome drink or two. It’s a great day out, so I hope you can make it.
Please let me know if you are able to help – email@example.com.
Oh, and if you’d like to run in the race, contact Dorien on firstname.lastname@example.org, who is putting together the SMOC teams.
