The rainforest lives up to its name.

Living here in the rainforest we have come to expect rain and a lot of it.  Over the past 20 years, we have seen our share of rain, but we have also come to expect the periodic dry seasons.  Going back to last year and through the first few months of 2022, it feels like a non-stop rainy season.  Recently, on our drive to a youth rally, we drove through a road completely submerged in water.  In fact, it got so deep, at one point a wave of water went over the hood of our truck and splashed into the front windshield!  Because of the enormous amounts of water, the roads are in horrible condition, which makes our travel time to some of our villages much longer, not to mention a little extra wear and tear on our bodies.

TTI Training

Our ministry has been blessed to adopt the TTI curriculum for making disciple-makers.  Believers are going out to share Christ for the first time.  Our leaders are developing a much larger vision for ministry.  The teaching on the Discovery Bible Study method has been fun to watch.  Romel, who has been with us for 20 years, is maturing rapidly in his speaking ability.  His message a few weeks ago from Matthew 9:35-38 was amazing.  A week later we checked with the churches where he had preached, and they remembered his exact points and what they were to do in response to the message!

Welcome to Steve and Gina

We welcome Steve and Gina Gant to Guyana.  They have completed the pre-field work of partnership development and they are here in the country.  After a period of personal adjustment and settling in, Steve and Gina will head up our Training Center.  We anticipate more lost people coming to us through this ministry than just about any other program we have.  We are excited to see what God has planned for this area of our ministry – something that greatly expands the scope of our work from what we have ever done in the past.

Spiritual fruit begins at home

Pastor Paul and his wife Gladys have grown so much in their walk with Jesus.  They have been with us for 20 years.  We thank God for their humility, love for Jesus, and faithful to the work where they have been called.  Paul and Gladys were just wrapping up some devotional time together when one of their young sons approached them.  He wanted to know what they were reading.  It wasn’t long before Paul was able to lead this young man to Christ!  God wasn’t done yet.  One-by-one Paul and Gladys saw 4 more of their children and one grandchild come and receive Jesus into their lives.  God has truly honored Paul and Gladys and their faithfulness to Jesus for all these years.

Staying on mission

Last year we enjoyed one of the most fruitful years of our 20 plus years of ministry in Guyana.  Our focus on the return of Christ and the urgency of winning souls has not diminished.  These first months of 2022 have been challenging for many reasons, but we are still thanking God for 32 professions of faith in Christ.  Just 3 so far have been baptized, but we anticipate a good number coming soon.

We are blessed by a group of men and women who share our vision to reach new areas.  Already this year we are reaching out to places like Surprise Hill, Koriabo River, and Arrokuru.  I doubt you will find these places on a world map, but you will find them in the heart of God.  His passion continues to burn for the peoples and places where Christ has not been preached.  Pray for the gospel influence to increase and broaden.

Young people are not merely the church of tomorrow, they are the church today.  We hosted a two-night youth rally in Kamwatta with help from a church in North Carolina.  Our little church building was bustling with activity both nights – more than 100 attended the first night and more than 125 the second night.  We followed this up 60 miles away with one night in Sebai.  The building there was packed as well.  The interest in these youth rallies gives us great encouragement for our camp season coming up in July and August.
