InterHarmony Summer 2016 February Update

Dear Mark,

I am writing to ask your assistance in spreading the word about a summer study opportunity for student singers. Aurelius and I will be teaching this summer at the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Arcidosso (Tuscany), Italy from July 12 - 24, 2016, and are hoping to find 4 - 5 more singers interested in working with us there.

InterHarmony is a festival for all ages and levels, not just career-track collegiate or young professional musicians. It is appropriate for high school-aged students who either are considering pursuing a degree in music or arr studying just for self-enrichment.  It is also appropriate for established adult amateur singers - including choral singers -  looking for a "music camp" experience in an absolutely beautiful and inspiring setting.

Since the InterHarmony program's founder is a cellist (Russian-born Misha Quint), there is a particular emphasis on chamber music:  all participants are assigned one or more pieces of chamber music repertoire to prepare in advance of the festival.  Once at the festival, grouped together by their repertoire, participants receive four chamber music coachings - two each week -  with a big performance of all the chamber works at the end of the festival. This is a terrific opportunity for students to work on repertoire outside of the standard voice-piano repertoire and to deepen their musicianship through small ensemble work.

The program also include 4 one-hour individual lessons for each student, an Italian for Singers (diction) class, master classes by faculty and guest artists including pianists Bruno Canino and Jean-Bernard Pommier, and performance opportunities assigned per the level of each student.

An additional opportunity this summer will be the chance to join the chorus in a production of Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro being staged by our colleagues J.R. Fralick from Baldwin-Wallace University and Rebecca Wilt from University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  (*As of right now, all the principal roles are cast, although there's a chance they may need a new Figaro.  If you have a student interested in singing Figaro, please contact us asap!)

In addition to the musical aspects of the program, tuition includes all room and board - this year the housing will be at small Agriturismi hotels, B&Bs and apartments  - and two day trip excursions, one to the beautiful city of Siena and the other to Porto Santo Stefano on the Mediterranean coast.   Friends and family who wish to come along can attend at a reduced price.

We will be accepting students to join us this summer at InterHarmony through May 1, but with a 10% discount on student tuition (including room and board) expiring on March 1, we're trying to let as many folks as possible know about this opportunity now, in order to take advantage of the discount.   Please let us know if you or any of your students, colleagues, or choir members would like to hear more about this wonderful program.     In addition to InterHarmony's own webpage, we have a page on our studio website, Summer 2016 Study in Italy , plus are happy to answer questions by email or phone.

Thanks and best wishes to you for a lovely - and soon-to-arrive - Spring!
