FREE Training

June 8, 2016

We have an opportunity to send two people to a free training event for people who work with youth in Montgomery County. The Mental Health Association is offering this free Youth Mental Health First Aid training on Wednesday, June 8 from 8:00-5:00pm. Training will be held at the Mental Health Association office located at 1000 Twinbrook Parkway, Rockville, MD.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.

If you are interested in attending, please contact Father Lee for the registration form.

Did you say Nursery?

Yup, that's right! We are looking for a volunteer core to help staff our nursery which will be opening soon. We have been receiving inquiries as to the availability of a nursery and also feedback from some parents with children ages 0-3 years.

The vestry has approved the re-opening (it's been a while) of our nursery. The nursery area is bright, clean, secure and is in the Children's Center Pre-School area. We will be hiring one paid position to run the nursery but need to have one volunteer each week to help staff it. The more volunteers we have the easier it will be for all, so PLEASE CONSIDER offering up on Sunday every once in a while to help families with young children come to church? If you are interested in volunteering, please email Father Lee.

 for our Housing Project!

As our project for Affordable Senior Housing continues to move forward - we need to start calling it something else besides "that affordable senior housing project."

So time to put on your creative caps and let's come up with a name together. Beginning this Sunday you will find an sign and envelope filled with notecards on the bulletin board in the parish hall. Here is all you need to do:
  • Write a name for the project on one side.
  • Put your name on the other side.
  • Stick back in the envelope.
At the May Vestry Meeting, the vestry will then narrow down the choices to the three and then we will have a parish vote. And for the winner? Well, we'll find something besides points in heaven - for you to claim as your reward....
