Toward a new home for the Lees!
February 2017 in Review
Overwhelmed with thankfulness for Margie and Baxter Swenson, ECC Serve Globally Co-directors who will retire in March. (For prayer requests, click here.)
"Home is Where We Are..."

Stepping out of the cold, we rushed into the warmth of the house and big hugs of Margie and Baxter Swenson. From their 40+ years of ministry/missionary service, the beautifully unique objects decorating each room represented different countries like a whirlwind tour of the world. Oh, the stories that those objects could tell! But first, we couldn’t hold back the good news…from day 1, the Swensons as Co-directors of Missionary Personnel have been encouraging us along our mission journey to France…so Kathy burst out with excitement, “We just raised over 80% of our mission budget!”

Our next chapter is beginning as theirs is coming to a close. As the Swensons retire, we can't imagine all the lives in Colombia, Ecuador and the U.S. touched by their love and hard work, all in the name of Jesus! Among their many words of wisdom, we’ll always remember these three important lessons:

1) Your family’s faith in Jesus comes first; 2)  Look at the long term; and 3) Home is where we are, not where we were.”

Hate Has NO Home Here

This past month, Kathy started ESL training with refugees through World Relief. Our conviction that God is already at work in mission means that we just need to step up and participate in it. The recent travel ban was injustice enough for Kathy to step up and volunteer, believing that our actions to serve the most vulnerable give glory to our Savior.

This World is Not My Home

The last year or so of tragic terrorist attacks in Paris and Nice gripped us with a newfound urgency to share the hope and truth of the Gospel in France. Even as we worship on Sundays, we think of the small number of French who are worshiping God in the same way, as few as 1%. In Avignon (pop. 91,200), if you were to look in the French Yellow Pages to find a church, guess how many are listed? Only 10 churches.

Our partner Pastor Thierry invited us to serve alongside him to help meet the needs for training in children’s ministry and Congregational Vitality. As the church waits patiently for our arrival, we can’t wait to pour our hearts into leadership development and outreach to children. To respond to our call to missions from when we first met and married, we vowed to each other, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

In collaboration with Pastor Thierry, we would like to see God raise up an effective number of French leaders in the local church to equip the next generation. You as our partners play a vital role in accomplishing this vision! As we plan to sell most of our possessions, pack up our few belongings and build a new household in France, our livelihood will depend on regular giving to sustain and empower us to do more for God’s mission! We’re looking for monthly partners who want to see God revive the church in France.

A big merci to Drew, our fundraising coach and former missionary to China. He Skypes with us every week to keep us on task and encouraged for this last leg of preparation. Drew is an invaluable partner making the life-changing difference for us to head toward a new home in God’s mission to France!

Kids' Cultural Corner

We’ve started to talk with the boys about our move to France. Here's what they've said...

Bo (10): I’ll miss so many things in the US: English, friends, not being the only Asian but mostly the Japanese video games that come out at least six months earlier than France because it takes that long to translate them into French.

Theo (7): Yes, I’ll get to eat French cereal! But I already forgot all my French words.
