The Advent wreath is one of my favorite symbols. Growing up,
I can recall the excitement of getting to light the candles each evening gathered around our dining room table. I can also recall the first time I lit a candle on the big Advent wreath at church. This past week, Riley lit the candle of hope with help from James, Keona, and Britney. I hope you will join us this Sunday as we light the candle of peace and the other Sundays of Advent as we light the candle of joy and the candle of love. As more candles are lit, the light grows revealing more clearly God’s presence and God’s path. In the darkness of Christmas Eve, we light the Christ candle and are reminded that the light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not overcome it. May the flame of the presence of God grow in our lives and our world in this special time.
