the highlight has been our Business Breakfast with SA Tourism CEO Mr Sisa Ntshona

Diversifying SA’s Economy
Tourism the New Gold

The National Development Plan identifies tourism as one of the economic sectors to contribute to the development of South Africa by 2030. The realisation of this goal rests on a robust and dynamic economy; one that is diversified, as well as growing by welcoming new entrants into its fold. It is only then that it can be beneficial and sustainable.

Mr Mbanjwa, Deputy Chairman Spanish Chamber,  and Mr Ntshona, CEO SA Tourism  shaking hands.

South African Tourism’s 5-in-5 strategy of attracting five million additional tourists is segmented into attracting 4 million foreign tourists and 1 million domestic holiday trips. The domestic element is very important as many developed countries’ tourism sectors are built on a fortified domestic travel culture. In the South African Tourism’s findings of the Domestic Tourism Refreshed Segments it shows that approximately 40.2% (21.7 million) of the total South African Population will be targeted for domestic tourism in the next five years. The focus will be on building the culture of travel, converting the travelling population to start taking holidays, and defending the existing holiday-makers to take more holidays. This it is believed will be how one million additional holiday trips in five years are attracted. It will also ensure that tourism in South Africa fully occupies its position as the new gold; building communities, bringing employment, and attracting the people of the world to its shores. Ample opportunities exist for tourism businesses and entrepreneurs in servicing this growing sector. Opportunities that exist beyond the traditional markets that have been focused on, the usual offerings people have become accustomed to (berg, beach and bush); to including hidden gems in all the nine provinces of South Africa, brought to us by new and exciting players possessing a different and exciting flavour of South Africa.
