Advocacy Day Recap

This Valentine's Day, more than forty individuals made their way to Austin to join us at the Capitol for our very first Advocacy Day. Adult literacy staff, volunteers, and learners from all over Texas scheduled appointments with legislative staff to discuss why adult education should be a priority. For many of them, this was their first trip to the Capitol.

Students who were unable to attend Advocacy Day, but still wanted to participate, wrote letters to their legislators about the impact of adult education on their lives.

Literacy Texas would like to send out a huge thanks to everyone who braved the weather, came out, and made our event a success. We were so inspired by the courage and dedication of this group and are happy to call them our advocates!

We are still accepting proposals for our 2017 Conference! We're looking for presenters that are willing to share their expertise with our attendees, on topics ranging from adult literacy to workforce integration, and everything in between.

To learn more, visit our website, where you can find details about the conference and a link to submit your proposal. The deadline is March 10th at 5 p.m., so don't delay. If you have any questions, please email or call us at (888) 577-9347. We look forward to reading your proposals!

Lesson Plans & Links & Handouts, Oh My!

Literacy Texas aims to provide quality training and support for adult education providers throughout Texas. Limited staff and resources may prevent us from visiting every part of our expansive state, but that doesn't mean we can't have an impact on those areas. Within the next few months, we will work on building out the resources provided on our website. We've already begun by adding our Presentation Library, which houses presentation materials (slideshows, handouts, and more) from our events. Materials will be added to this section regularly, so be sure to check back regularly for updates.

We've also expanded our Links page to include helpful websites with information and lesson plans on digital, health, and financial literacy, and much more.

We hope you'll take advantage of these resources, and let us know what other information you'd like to see added!

Spring to Your Nearest Symposium

Spring is a busy time for our team, and we'll be hitting the road twice this month for our Literacy Symposiums--first to Pearland on March 11th, then Longview on March 25th. If you live in either of these areas and haven't already registered, don't worry--we still have room for you! Head to our website for details on time, location, and schedule, and make sure to pre-register to ensure you have a spot.

We'll also be in Lubbock on April 8th, and Waco on May 6th. Our Literacy Symposiums are free events that provide quality training in just a single day, and 100% of our attendees say they would recommend them to others. But you don't have to take their word for it--sign up and see for yourself!
