Pastoral care in a dangerously changing climate 2 PM Saturday 11 May ZOOM
TO CARE HURTS
Did you know that church ministers are now receiving training in how to care for people experiencing increased individual and societal anxiety, depression, existential dread and solastalgia?
When Jessica Morthorpe joins CCL for 30 minutes on Saturday as our special guest she will share her thoughts about her day to day work as a Uniting Earth Advocate training faith-based carers to care in the face of dangerous climate change.
It takes a special soul to do this kind of work and we are grateful for Jessica's energy and for making the time to share. See you there!
Read more about Jessica here on the blog.

The role of the media in misrepresenting climate change and climate solutions and in influencing climate policy is a live issue in Australia. Will it ever end? And yet there is something concrete we can all do on a weekly or even a daily basis to counteract it - we can write to the editors and we can call radio talk back.
So, whether or not you already call radio stations or write to the editors, or want to, if you already shout at the news then CCL Australia's hosted monthly 'National Conversation' is for you.
No need to RSVP, just come along, all welcome. To be added to the letter writing group send an email to email@example.com

With your help, cross-partisanship on climate action in the federal parliament could deliver
Over the last few years, many CCL members have lobbied their MPs for the establishment of a cross-partisan Parliamentary Friends group for climate change - and now it exists.
Now, CCL Australia members can help put it to work.
If you have already watched a CCL information session (watch here) can you contact your MHR, Senator and/or your preferred local candidates? Apart from simply wishing them well in the forthcoming federal general election you could tell them you support a Parliamentary Friends of Climate Action in the 46th parliament.
For sitting members, click here to see whether or not they have already met with CCL so you can frame your letter most appropriately. To locate your seat's candidates use the TallyRoom site here. If you feel you need a recent document on the costs of climate change to share with your MP, it would be hard to go past this one from the Climate Council released today - Compound Costs: How Climate Change is Damaging Australia's Economy.
The limits of 'command and control' never so clear
Paul Hawken (Drawdown) calls them the greatest climate solution accelerator. A growing number of countries now have them. And residents in some states in Canada have just last month even started receiving regular 'cash back' because of them. Yes, we are talking carbon taxes.
Even though Australian commentators and businesses seem united in declaring a 'price on carbon' essential, still it is only the Australian Greens who are explicitly doing so, by placing a carbon fee at the source of planet- warming emissions. All it needs now is a dividend approach to return the fees to the wider economy! Did you know that New Zealand Green Party advocated for a Carbon Fee and Dividend type of carbon tax at the last New Zealand general election? Read more here.
Read about how a dividend approach could help make a new Australian carbon tax a reality - one example is the University of New South Wales' #AusCarbonDividend Click here to find out more.
Like to advocate for a fair and effective carbon price for your community?
Thanks to generous design support from CCL members and supporters we have been able to create new postcards and flyers and they are now ready for you to print and use in your community advocacy for accelerating climate action by putting a price on pollution.
Click here to download CCL Australia Carbon Fee and Dividend postcards file - you can choose from 4 images, with an information backing included.
