Monthly Meeting
Guest Speaker

Dr Kim Loo
Mitchell CCL Coordinator
2 pm Saturday February 9

Making every conversation count

Dr Kim Loo is CCL's Mitchell (NSW) coordinator and CCLs parliamentary liaison for her Liberal representative Alex Hawke MP. And like many Citizens' Climate Lobby members Kim wears many climate action 'hats' - and makes every conversation count for the climate in one way or the other.

Not only is she an inspiring and active group and area coordinator and mentor for Citizens' Climate Lobby she is also a busy GP, a mum, an active member of Doctors for the Environment and a key team member in the No Time for Games campaign launched at Parliament House in the final sitting fortnight of 2018.

Kim encourages all her patients, colleagues and friends to join in climate solutions and has been on national TV to talk about how she has made her home and lifestyle genuinely sustainable.

She also 'lobbied' in the Wentworth by-election, and at the 2018 ALP Conference and has met, and potentially influenced, many politicians with her authoritative, down to earth and integrity-centred approach.

As this month's special guest of CCL she will talk about her experience of being a member of several climate action organisations and how she has been able to blend and bridge between them.

CCL Australia's interns are busy already - thank you

Thanks to generous support from CCL members and supporters we have been able to expand the CCL Australia Climate Intern program in 2019.

We currently have Scott from UNSW and Jeremy (pictured above) from UC working with Sydney groups organising the Feb 17/18 NSW ACT conference and lobby day, and Angela from UC working with a professional journalist and CCL's economic consultant on a Carbon Fee and Dividend video project. Thank you to our interns for their efforts, and thank you to CCL members who are providing mentoring to the program.

The Robin Hood Tax?

Late last year the University of New South Wales released its initial household impact modelling for a carbon fee and dividend type of GHG pricing mechanism for Australia. It is called the Australian Climate Dividend Plan (ACDP). Ross Gittins talks about the ACDP as a 'Robin Hood' carbon tax.

Now, delegates registered for the NSW/ACT conference on February 17 will get to hear one of the plans coauthors, Dr Richard Holden, speak about the report. Register now.

The modelling report and some of the commentary so far are available here and you can l
isten to Peter Todd's comparison of the ACDP with CCLs Carbon Fee and Dividend here.
Like to advocate for Carbon Fee and Dividend in your community but don't have flyers?

Thanks to generous design support from CCL members and supporters we have been able to create new postcards and flyers and they are now ready for you to print and use in your community advocacy for accelerating climate action by putting a price on pollution.
