2020 Census & Digital Equity Roundtable

Lauren Moore, Executive Director

Hello everyone,

On November 28th at 9:30 am, Pioneer Library System and the Finger Lakes Digital Inclusion Coalition are hosting an informational session about the 2020 Census and digital equity.  For the first time, the Census in 2020 will be distributed digitally.  People across New York are concerned about what this means for the 20% of New Yorkers who are without internet access at home. As leading providers of technology access and digital literacy instruction in our communities, libraries are going to play an important role in the 2020 Census.

Please share this invitation with community organizations, elected officials, and other representatives from your community. In order to have a complete Census count in 2020, the entire community will need to work together.

Save the Date: Advocacy Day February 27, 2019

Lauren Moore, Executive Director

Each year library advocates from across New York State converge on Albany to voice their support for funding and policies that benefit libraries. Their efforts have resulted in over $11M in additional library aid since 2011. Please consider making the trip to Albany with us on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, to show your support for libraries.

Details and bus registration will be available soon.

Friends Support for Annual Advocacy Day Bus

Lauren Moore, Executive Director

We are asking for contributions from Friends groups within Pioneer Library System to help offset the cost of the bus charter for this year's trip to Albany. Last year we had 12 donations from Friends’ groups for a total of $665.00. However, the actual cost of the bus trip is $1575.00. With your Friends' generous support we can offer affordable travel to committed advocates. Any amount is welcome – as are all passengers! We will send out a flyer for bus reservations in early January 2019.

Please encourage your Friends' groups to consider supporting this year's Advocacy Day bus by sending the letter linked below.

Public Comment Policy

Ron Kirsop, Assistant Director

At their last meeting, the PLS Board of Trustees approved a new Public Comment Policy. It is a good idea for libraries to adopt a similar policy to aid in the effectiveness of board meetings if/when your public attends. You can find the Pioneer Library System Public Comment Policy by visiting our policy page at https://pls-net.org/policies. Your Policy Committee is welcome to use these policies as a sample as you review your policies.

If you have any questions about public comment, Open Meetings Law, or policies, please let us know.
