Please join the Rotary Club of Toronto for a virtual presentation on the impact of COVID-19 on Indigenous communities.

Guest speaker: Renee Linklater

Renee Linklater, PhD is a member of Rainy River Nations in Northwestern Ontario.  She has over 25 years of experience working with Indigenous healing agencies and First Nation communities. Renee has worked across the health and education sectors as a frontline worker, program evaluator, curriculum developer, educator/trainer, and researcher. She is an international speaker on trauma and healing and is the author of Decolonizing trauma work: Indigenous stories and strategies. Renee is the Director of Shkaabe Makwa at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and is actively involved in several system level initiatives across the province.

Audrey DeRoy, BA/BEd., is of mixed heritage, Anishinaabe/French and is a band member of Anizaatikoong (formerly known as Lac Des Mille Lacs) First Nation and recently employed by Ontario Native Women’s Association as the Land Based Coordinator, reconnecting Indigenous Women and families to the land.  For the past 20 years, Audrey has been a First Nations’ Education Teacher for the Ministry of Education and Tourism, Culture and Sport,  passionately advocating for Indigenous peoples and teaching Anishinaabe spirituality, worldview, philosophy and material culture to students and people of all ages, both locally and internationally.   Audrey practices the Anishinaabe traditional ecological and technological knowledge teachings, and is committed to reclaiming the Anishinaabemowin language back into her life.  Audrey is actively involved in her community, in her role as an Indigenous Resource Person/Entrepeneur she delivered presentations, workshops and marketed handcrafts at Indigenous conferences, organizations and educational institutions.
