Research Bulletin - November 2022 (Issue 81)

Scotland's research, development and innovation in health is renowned all over the world, and our Chief Scientist (Health), Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak wants to make absolutely sure that we galvanise the entire community during this period of great need and unleash the power of life sciences in Scotland. Speaking as part of the Scotsman Life Science Conference, Professor Dominiczak highlights the essential need to work on a once for Scotland basis, put collaboration at the heart of all efforts and embed research, development and innovation in every part of NHS.

Strengthening the community, and creating capacity, is part of this with a range of Fellowship opportunities currently open: NHS Innovation Fellowships, joint NHS Education Scotland and Chief Scientist Office Lectureships, and Early Postdoctoral Fellowships. A range of clinical lead positions are also open to support Cancer, Diabetes and Stroke.

Elsewhere this month, NRS Cardiovascular, will host an event in Grampian to better understand and prioritise the future needs of cardiovascular patients across the north of Scotland; a UK-first trial which aims to screen 20,000 children for type 1 diabetes has opened in Scotland; and NRS Diabetes Manager, Dr Anna Barnett writes in the latest issue of Scottish Healthcare Review (p.8 - 9) about the importance of taking action to address Scotland's type 2 diabetes burden through heightened knowledge and innovation. A range of events are also open for registration including R&D Forum, NRS Renal Research Day and NRS Oral and Dental Research Day.

We hope you find this issue useful and as always, your ideas, feedback and contributions are welcome.
