Supporting new funding, and development opportunities is critical to recovery of research within the NHS, and two new major funding calls have been announced his month by the Chief Scientist Office, alongside charity partners Wellbeing of Women, LifeArc and Muscular Dystrophy UK. A new NHS Scotland Innovation Fellowship Scheme will also launch next month helping to translate scientific research and technology into practice.
Streamlining systems and processes is also a focus, and as part of the Recovery Resilience and Growth programme, which aims to deliver on the actions set out in Saving and Improving Lives: The Future of UK Research Delivery, work is progressing to create a standardised national approach to costing for commercial contract research across the UK. Scotland already already operate a single price model for commercial research and updates on work to create an aligned UK process have been published on the NHS Research Scotland website
