Research Bulletin - February 2017 (Issue 12)

February sees the launch of Scotland’s new Life Sciences Strategy. Titled Accelerating Growth, Driving Innovation, the refreshed strategy builds on achievements of the sector over the last few years and sets out ambitious plans to make Scotland the location of choice for businesses, researchers, healthcare professionals and investors; increasing the sector’s economic contribution to £8bn by 2025.

The role of NHS Research Scotland in supporting this growth is evident – the strategy highlights Scotland’s wealth of clinical expertise, our innovation ready unified health service and our growing registry of patients willing to share e-health records for the development of novel treatments and therapies. Take the time to review the strategy or listen to Dave Tudor, Chair of Life Sciences Scotland talk about the new Strategy.

In this issue we also welcome our new Mental Health Research Network Manager and new research leads in Ageing, Dermatology, Ophthalmology and Respiratory Disease; we highlight collaborative work underway to create a UK-wide Local Information pack which will  be incorporated into IRAS and detail the official opening of the Imaging Centre of Excellence (ICE) at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Enjoy reading and as always your ideas, feedback and contributions are welcome.
