Where to Find Happy People

Posted March 22, 2017 by Evelyn Zohlen

Where is your “happy place”? A recent trip to Bhutan, where the government measures “Gross National Happiness,” inspires Evelyn to take a look at where are the happiest people in the world. You’ll be surprised to see how the United States ranks and how little your country (and other external factors) contributes to your happiness.

We recently had our off-site Quarterly Review Meeting (QRM) where we discussed our values, purpose, and goals for the firm as well as ways to serve our clients better. We also had the pleasure of having our upcoming summer intern, Kathleen Boyd, attend the meeting to give us new perspective on our initiatives. Kathleen will officially be starting her internship with us in May. Since the meeting happened to fall on St. Patrick’s Day, we finished off the day with a refreshing glass of green beer and champagne!

Evelyn and Mark ran in the Bhutan International Marathon (half marathon for Evelyn!) earlier this month and enjoyed their visit to this beautiful kingdom in the Himalayas.

Evelyn also participated on a panel addressing the question “How the New Administration May Affect Your Investments, Estate & Taxes” at an event hosted by WISE and WomanSage (nearly 60 women enjoyed her pearls of wisdom and lively Q&A!).

Evelyn and Mark’s son-in-law Jonathan O’Connor (Alison) accepted a position as an Associate with BlackArch Partners in Charlotte, NC. BlackArch is a boutique investment bank that specializes in helping mid-market family businesses sell their companies.  When Alison started her new job at Dimensional Fund Advisors last October, they moved from Buffalo to Charlotte.  Jonathan wrapped up his duties at M&T Bank and followed her South!  To top it off, it's like going home for them since Jonathan's parents live 90 minutes away and family is very important to both of them.  (Note:  there is a nonstop flight from John Wayne Airport to Charlotte! Family is important to us too!)

A Great Profession for Women

Evelyn was recently featured in a video promoting the financial planning profession for women. The four women (and two men) at Inspired Financial all agree we love our work!
